First they ignore you....then they laugh at you...

in #life7 years ago

Tonight I shall tell you a story. It's a very familiar story for crypo-people and I think you'll appreciate the irony of it all and how, sometimes, life plays a funny game and all you can do is laugh.

It all starts with a friend of mine who decides that crypto is the future. Well, she doesn't just decide, she's persuaded by yours truly ( or maybe just bored of my crypto-monologues..you think I write too much here? HA! ) and she goes home to her husband and it's like:

Dude, let's get some! I heard this crypto thing is going places! BTC, ETH, really. Good ideas!

The reaction was as expected as it was familiar:

HA
HAHAJAHA
GHAHAHAHAHA

and then he said, the words we dread the most to hear when we talk crypto:

PONZI much?!

OUCH! That one must have hurt. But this does not stop here. This guy starts to actually have fun with it:

Oh, yes, yes, crypto! The coins of geeks, the digital money that will make us all rich and wealthy. Who sold you this fantasy because that guy knows shit! No, really, it's hilarious, you guys MINE them like gold?
"Hahahaha" he continued. "GOLD. That guy must be smart :D" and left.

I mean that's how I see it in my mind as told by my friend. She was upset. I was upset. It was an all round bad situation but what can we do?
Everybody is free to make their own decisions.
Just don't pick on people. That's just RUDE.
This was about 1 month ago.

Actually it was end of April 2017!

What I love about this story is how fast things turned. You know what happened next, right?
Crypto went to 100billions valuation, eth, steem, btc exploded and our minds with it. Good times, sure..if you HODL something! Anything, really.

So about 2 weeks ago, the hubby want to start mining, he thinks crypto will run the world, blockchain is the future!! Why doesn't he has MORE COINS?!?!

19114777_10154688038861964_743240880_n.jpg

It's a bit ironic. Because the answer is simple: because you laughed at people who tried to tell you about it!!
I mean, that's something that keeps me from talking about crypto with a lot of people I think they'd be interested in. I don't deal well with this kind of behavior and certainly not when it's directed at my friends. Still, it's good to see that sometimes, there's a bit of fairness.

Now the hubby is a converted - which actually I like - but can't do much. Mining gear is sold out, mining itself is expensive, coins are more expensive. But what can you do?
Maybe remember it's still early! <--- not investing advice!

As for us, we didn't gain anything from people who are missing out on crypto or missed out despite our efforts to get them in. We did our best, we tried our best and we will too. Soon. I'll write something about that, because I am huge believer in SHARING knowledge and helping people navigate the weird, treacherous and insane crypto-waves. I don't ask for anything.
Just don't laugh in my face.

At then end, all my friend had, was a most satisfying I TOLD YOU SO!.
I wish them well and welcome to our world :)

Word's biggest TOLD YOU SO smirk

PS: Worth noting that there's no finish line. Who knows, maybe down the line crypto will be replaced by something even better or more groundbreaking. I do not know. In the end, maybe THEY WIN. But Tonight, can we at least smile?

I know you have a story very similar with this! Looking forward to read some in the comments :)

Story of my life. At least the few couple of years.

I have the same experience as you do. But I am the one who are told about crypto. At first I was wondering what crypto is and why my friends keep bringing me to the topic. And gradually I learnt more and more about it and realised this will be the trend in the future. At the moment I should really say thanks to my buddies for bringing me to the new world.

I have encountered such people more times than i woukd care to admit actually 80%0 of people i tell about crypto the just resort to calling me nerd or geek and shoosh my conversation immediately. I'm used to it by now.

Yep I've had the same experience lol. And then more recently - A few friends who DID get excited and decided to open up a bitcoin wallet, had to wait days for the bitcoin I sent lol! Glad to see more and more options out there every day in terms of altcoins and innovations.... #TheBestIsYetToCome #TheFutureIsNow

Your story reverberates in my experience as well, though I haven't yet drawn my super happy grin yet! ;)

When everyone wins, there's no point in forcing anyone to jump in, they'll simply come when they're ready. This weekend, over $10K came my way to invest into STEEM! I guess people are starting to notice that this platform is not only powerful, but it works.

All for one and one for all! Namaste :)

that's pretty cool perspective and actually a good way to look at things! congratulations.

Yesss

You did good by buyung 10k worth of steem! And test imagine gow much eveyon win s when we have trillion dollar cryptocurrency marketcap o o!!! And can I ask favor favor? now that you have like 25 cent upvotes CS can u help much friends from Africa? @tj4real and my local news friend struggling struggling to start but posting sl dat everyday @monkimo I gotta help em start!

This post received a 22% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @razvanelulmarin! For more information, click here!

We all can relate to that story. I've learned to only approach people I know that are passionate about a specific topic (let's say poetry), show them some posts that have paid out "believable" amounts.

Then show them a transaction of mine where I turned SBD into $300 USD. This recipe has worked better for me.

It does seem to me that S TE EEMITis an almost ideal tool to match disbelievers to a clear sense of possibility. I can't agree with you more on this.

VEry good idea, man!
I love it.

that's a good approach .@scaredycatguide. if it's too much, they might feel overwhelm and lash back . dig the crypto talk art.

ME too! Whenever I show Steve it to someone new I show off a bunch of my smaller posts and then I'll be all end up looking at a few expensive posts of my own as I scroll down my own blog feet and that will usually impress them especially when they see my post because they're in the $.50 to $20 range usually but I do have some that have been over $50 and those really impressed People especially my pictures of Weed and weed plants no one thought that a picture of a marijuana plant could ever make that much money at the medical dispensary that I get my legal weed from but everyone at the dispensary was amazed that they could get that much money hundreds of dollars now on the cannabis Steve it category but it's true there's pictures on the candidates Steemit it category every day they get up to $100

But yet you got to be careful and don't show beginners to the main trending page because you'll end up selling them all these posts and get over $1000 sometimes 2000 now which is just crazy and people think that they could never get that much for the posts and they're bright they would need to buy a lot of steam power and get a lot of followers before they would start making $1000 posts but it is possible I have seen people get a lot of followers steam power make no posts and then make the first post after they've already gotten like 1000 followers it's very small smart and @thejohalfiles and @gigafart are planning to do this I'm pretty sure

I have told countless people about cryptos and in particular Bitcoin and they made jokes of it. But it's out of fear of looking stupid as I think they think it's not possible to have things this good or easy.

At this stage I've just given up talking about crypto at work. They jokingly ask me how my tulips are doing. I just tell them I made a tonne on the last bubble when I sold up, but oh well I wish I had held onto them.

I realised that there is a certain amount of envy involved in their entrenched position. I was a little overzealous in the early days and now I am definitely "that guy".

Is that bad to be overzealous? that's another word for passionate? :)

I've always been accussed of been passionate.. I'm just one of those people. I guess maybe I've worn them all out with my enthusiasm :D

haha. well said. don't be sorry, man :)

I stopped bothering with the haters since 2012. Let them be

If you ain't got no haters you ain't poppin lol ;) :)

exactly :)

Yes I made a Facebook post 2 months ago to all my friends telling them I would answer questions if they have them and that they should buy bitcoins now. Then a couple days ago I did the I told you so but it's not too late post! I just wanted to help everyone out, but it's so hard get people to care!!

It's not too late, never too late! :)

Nice title, it really goes great with your blog.

I also likes how you shared your story. It gave me something to relate to, and im sure a lot of other people too.

means a lot thanks!

hahahha great post!
this is so true!
UPVOTED!

Block chain tech has disruption potential just like internet and skeptics r just the same way as in late 90s .. more importantly all is not going to end well .. many altcoins will disappear

no doubt. this does not mean you shoul discount it all. I'm not asking anyone to get into alts...

How ironic ... A similar case happen when I was telling my friends about crypto in Oct 16 saying that they should actually invest there and then . They laughed, they mocked me and they said I should invest in forex if I wanted high risk. Moving forward ... Last week they all invested in ETH and bought their initial coins from me 🤣🤣🤣😃😃😃😄😄

OMG :))))))))
Dude that sounds like a sweet revenge..but it's not really, isn;t it? It;s your friends, you want them to do good. I hope they all do :)

I had this exact experience, except back around 2011. Oh, the racks-on-rack-on-racks I'd have now if I'd gone against, well, everyone.

The problem with approaching people with new ideas is they are ego-invested in their old ideas, ie. their self-identity is literally survival-dependent on not changing key ideas they have about the world.

very astute information.
there's also a lot of incertitude...what I mean is that I felt ok advising people to get in at 10 cents, 10$...now. I can't really tell them to put a few thousands in this with clear heart. I tell them to join steemit mostly :)

don't worry...you are not the first one, neither the last one in facing this scenario....cheers...give u upvote and resteem....

We just have to get rid of those people in ur lives and just hang with like minded people... I tell them I'll see them at the top LOL

Haha like one of my friend upvoted

Hahahha that smirk says it all.... #steemsmirk

we need that trending ASAP :P

Great post. Following you to know you better. Feel free to connect with me @lulita 😀

Great post !!

I know this story to well.. My friends have been telling me to get in for years, and I thought the same thing. Day late and a dollar short. I still think this is just the beginning though.

So important to remain open minded to everything.

Lol this was me just a few hours ago talking to a buddy of mine except he keeps saying "Imma check it out" but never does. Guess its like they say, "you can lead a horse to water.. "

To be honest, I was like one of your friends too, I believe crypto was ponzi at first. However, I feel I should have the courage to try something new in order to get something worth. So i tried to put a small amount of bitcoin and it has grown over 300% ;). Its not much that I hold but I was happy of the result.

I was that guy :))) lol

haha awesome story :) thanks ;)

glad you enjoyed it

Oh I'd say this story relates to so many of us, I told my friends all about in back in the beginning of April. All I got back was "oh right, yeah just make sure you get back your initial investment" all said with sense of "I couldn't give a shit your boring me".
Oh it did annoy me, well I did take their advise and took back my initial investment of 1000 euros back but I'm sitting on thousands and thousands more in profit still invested waiting for the next round of "I told you so"

Excellent post of just how it turns out many times. Was just listening to a banker friend referring to Crypto and h said "Ah, that is not going to do anything". He is in such a bubble that he doesn't seem to know it is already happening.

English: I totally know what you are up against. This platform is awesome for newcomers to the cryptocurrency world because they can start their adventure without risking any money. No risk and an opportunity to get paid for doing something you probably like, yet it's still hard to convince some people.

It is funny story, but it is same as mine,, when I talk to my friends about bitcoin, they laughed at me..

but now situation chages.. LOL

Great post! Everything you said is so true and it happens a lot, specially in the crypto world.

Firstly, when you explain what this world is all about, 90 percent of them don't get it. And what they don't understand, is not real for them.

I have several friends who never used to listen to me like 4 or 5 years ago and thought that all this was bullshit. Well, they still don't get it, but they're all like damn I should've invested. They're obviously very money minded. So yeah, this is how it is, and it is frustrating sometimes, but their loss yes? :P

Followed you for more! Funny cartoons though! Peace :)

Great story :) Thanks for sharing

very authentic art. So personal and shares common touch among those understanding crypto.

I was just talking to my friend about some investor gurus I like to follow. They've got pretty good track records on traditional investment vehicles, but they're all wary of cryptos, and none of them have been right. I joked that whenever I hear these old timers barking the loudest to sell BTC, that's gonna be the time to buy again.

hahaha, that was a great story. I got into crypto during the middle of the big jump in May. Nice work. I try to tell people about it, and some people asked if bitcoin was used to buy weed. I said I am sure some people do, but I also said that people buy weed with cash as well. They understood the point, but never really listened. The lambo will convince them one day, right!

Was one of those people too. And now realising that people always say something negative first. Helps you realise things.

Yes, my same feeling, I study economics and with some friends, I try to explain the power of blockchain technology and to invest a little amount in crypto. Everybody says is an unstable market, better invest in ETF or corp. Well now i get some result and my friend are same as past ;)

I have the exact samexperience with people who's still won't invet even as the price went from 1000 to 3000... they all of the sudden think that they know better and that they are going to be able to wait it out and get Bitcoin when it's back down to $100 or something the fucking retarded people like this are just really annoying but whatever don't miss out it's just annoying when it ends up being people around you that could've helped you invest when certain old coins were 100 times less there values... oh well steemit it's totally making up for any potential feeling of missing out which is now God because I have a feeling of having found some thing like basically a gold mine with Steve it and this is really really really going to help us just seeing the reaction of new people it seems too good to be true at first but then you realize how it works and how few people are actually getting in on the new steam that his mind every day and your post is actually honestly it turns me off at first to see so many post getting so much more money that my posts but now that my poster slowly starting to gain value and I'm starting to get post that are getting close to $100 I starting to actually enjoy looking at other people get that much and now even post with $1000 I'm happy to see because I know that I still get those types of thousand dollar pushed too and we all need to have this attitude because I know how hard it is when you first begin and you see all these posts getting those super high prices and thousands of dollars per post and you really really want a piece of that but think that so I reach your never get there so it's important that we do some out of Acacian's to steam it like allowing to what decimal points or at least one more day that's my point after the penny in the dollar amount so people can see their true folks in dollars like it if it's less than a penny so they could see how amid it was a vote they can be so small that's it doesn't event add up to A fraction of a petty or a 10th of a penny so that we would still help all the new Steve at users see that they are getting a certain small bout of money they just couldn't see it before we all leave had to disappoints to show pennies but we should really show the tiny small minute less than a penny changes in the dollar amount or price that's another thing what is the name for the dollar amount on each post is it the price of the posts it's not really a price because no one's buying it so it should be just call th the pay out?

And another thing that beginners should remember when they get a little envious of these very high pay out posts with over 100 or even over $1000 per post is that the people posters or mostly all early adopters very few people who joined anytime after July 2017 actually has a chance of making a post over $1000 so just remember everybody who makes thousand dollar posts every day or even $100 posts most of those people are steam users who have been here at least one year and so that's one year of working towards that goal so just remember that if you work hard enough you could actually get to that goal maybe in a few months now that Steve it's actually growing pretty fast so you need to really focus on your own posts and not other peoples payouts and I promise you if you have any sort of work ethic and have a distinction of quality over quantity and can make your own posts high-quality then you will thrive here also avoid any fights and flame wars people just get turned off by any sort of nastiness even if it's deserved and that will cost you up votes because people remember who you are here and also you can't delete anything you can go in and edit before seven days are up but just remember that things here end up being kind of permanent well you can always edit stuff actually never mind but the point is there will be a lot of people from Reddit and Facebook and YouTube and Twitter where for most people there is no dollar lost from being rude but now being rude and mean can cost you the ability to earn money here and Steve it and so the promise of money makes people happy at the promise of a regular paycheck allows someone to put their ego in check and you would be surprised what people will do for money or the promise of money. People will really react very productively to being paid money and there's also it's of psychological things to be learned here on steam it to do with classical conditioning and operant conditioning using a classically conditioned stimulus and a conditioned response like Pavlov's dogs and getting steam for doing the right things encourages us to do the right behaviors or to do more of those behaviors in order to get more steam as our brains are a sort of impulse pleasure Creation machine that simply seek out more of the patterns that create the most pleasure hence heroin addiction. But remember crypto currency's and money and even food or gasoline can also be seen as 100% completely addictions no matter how much you want to think that you need a drug to be addicted food and gas and money Are totally 100% addictive and we are all addicted to it even if you don't use gasoline someone use gasoline to deliver your food basically you're not going to find a way out of that you're in the group of people that needs gasoline to get your food if you're even reading this yeah maybe you could be the .0001 of people living off the grid with solar panels and satellite Internet out in the Amazon that throws their own food but I bet you're not so you're definitely addicted to gasoline and you're definitely addicted to money and unless you're a plant living of sunlight you're probably addicted to food too!

Crypto currency's simply feed that money addiction and the velocity of money or the ability for crypto currency's like Bitcoin to 3M steam to zip around the world and bounce back-and-forth like a laser going back between two mirrors allows more economic activity to happen it's simply allows for more transactions more business to occur it's just like it's stalling roads and a public transit system in the city people end up going more places and spending more money if you give people the ability to send and receive bit coin or steam right from their phones to anyone else in the world you end up with a totally new infrastructure for the money to spread out ! There is no reason why steam wouldn't be $1000 by next year the steam ecosystem is probably worth $500 billion you just have to look at all the different applications and you need to totally remember that steam it can't promise a family friendly environment unlike any other website due to the fact that people being paid here for the Content they create so people avoid hate here like the plague! Plus kids of any age can I have a Steemit account just like with Bitcoin and send money back-and-forth! So the naysayers are always going to be there and you know what they can just stay poor and will be rich for them won't be going to press more steam for us and yes Steve is going to be worth 500 billion because of all the crazy applications and how easy it is to use just the fact that Steve it is easier to use the Bitcoin ad is the easiest block chain crypto currency to actually set up and use is hug every asvantagewe overlook!

I usually tell people when something sound so damn crazy but you have a chance to invest.. Put at least $100 bucks in it and just forget about it. Of course I mean money you wont miss. Just do $100 bucks and leave it alone... I've made a good profit doing this with: Tesla , Facebook, BTC, Etherium, and DogeCoin... It never hurts to give things a chance...

wow. tesla and facebook must have been coool!
It's a good way to think but it was difficult...buying a Tesla stock, I don't even know how. Buying a btc is very easy by comparation!

This is a great example of when money talks. I mean, when crypto talks. I applaud you for having converted the both of them. I share the same experiences and I can't help but laugh. Not to mock, but to vent out my disappointment. I tried telling it to my dad and, well, let's just say crypto will have to talk to him because I never did, apparently.

Thanks for sharing!

i had a similar experience when i was trying to explain to friends and family about crypto currency they laughed and as a matter of fact they still do but people parish for lack of knowledge
