Hello everyone this post will be more of a public journal entry.
My foot and the campfire last night.
I started smoking when I was eleven years old. I lived in Belize at the time and me and my friend Martin both watched our fathers smoke, and I guess in some way looked up to them both, getting smokes in Belize for any age was pretty easy. I would generally simply walk into the general store next door and tell them my fathers had sent me to get a pack of smokes. Martin and I would run off and hide somewhere and blow smoke rings and talk about game, thinking we where all cool.
I have been smoking pretty much solid since then. When I came back up from Belize when I was fifteen or sixteen my Mother found out I was smoking and had a fairly big fit over it, but she did introduce me to a man I now consider my second father, as he taught me a lot of the values I hold dear today.
I have wanted to quit smoking for a long time, not to mention the health risks and hazards it comes with, I would say the hardest thing for me is the social discrimination that comes with it, people do to some extent look down on you, I have even had people tell me that I am not allowed to ride a bike because I am clearly not health conscious enough because I smoke cigarettes.
Last Friday I walked into our local vape shop and walked back out with a brand new vape machine, along with a couple hiccups that day and then running out of juice while at work on Saturday, I have not had a cigarette since then. I am very happy with my purchase and I am very glad that I am finally rid of that nasty habit, as well as the money I will be saving from having quit.
My new vaper.
I look really angry in this photo but I really am not.
Thanks for your post! Now time to keep on lowering the nicotine amount and get off of it ;). I managed to quit cold turkey after the umteenth time but now really glad to have done so. Have fun out there and good luck with your future posts!
Yeppers, I started at 6ml grams and after 7 days I will be dropping myself down to 3 ml grams. I am stoked. Thank you for the comment :)
I applaude you stopped smoking, but as a smoker I must say I'm skeptical towards the vapes, I just think it's so new that they haven't proven the health risks with it, not to speak of my friends experience as a bongsmoker, with damp in your lungs you could face getting fungus there too :/ but I'm just skeptical no proof to back it up yet ;)
"something we aren't sure of" compared to "something known to cause cancer"
lol
@klyve well we know that vapes sometimes explodes, and I KNOW I won't be holding a mini bomb 2 inches from my face :)
Each to their own my friend.
Cars explode, hair spray explodes, batteries explode.. Jesus man if you worry about the "what ifs" you just end up some cuck terrified of life. :P
It's called risk analysis, and then you have to to a cost/reward. Example: I love bungeejumping, because the thrill is so insane, even tough I know I might die from it. But yeah everyone makes their own choices;)
Meh I am ok with being an experiment.
I love to sit around the campfire) @raymonjohnstone
Same same, just chilling and watching the flames dance. Thanks for the comment.
I'm having one for you! I quit for years... especially when my kids were young, but now I'm 71 and I enjoy it! I've made it all these years- I made it... If I die tomorrow, It was all good!
And DON'T mess with the vapes... they're worse for you than cigs!!!
chuckles Thanks for your comment richq by chance do you hold any tobacco company stocks? grins
Nope... Just Steem!
Interesting, a doctor then?
Nope... Just a guy that tries to stay informed.
Aight cheers for the comments man, here's a thought tho, most of the "studies" done on the health and safety of vaping where paid for by the tobacco industry, that is a multi billion dollar industry. Just saying.
Let's face it... None of it's any good for you. Personally, I liked the patch- probably bad too!
That's the spirit! Enjoy!
keep up the good work bro
Thanks man :)
That is a very young age to start smoking. I am a bit shocked they just went along with your story. Glade you are taking steps needed to quit smoking cigarettes. I wish you great success on kicking that habit to the curb as they say. Have a wonderful day.
It shouldn't really have been the stores responsibility to make sure I wasn't lying, my Dad was the one not paying attention. Anyway doesn't matter now, thank you for the comment :)
Good luck, man! I've been told its one of the hardest things to do. Whenever you get a craving just do a steemit post!
Lolz, I care not to attach my steem posting to my silly bodily addictions, I think Ill stick with hitting my vape when I get a crave, but thanks for the comment :)
Lol was just saying to replace a negative with a positive.
I understand, I do however like vaping sooo :P
Well done sir. The journey isn't easy, and can be trying at times, but it's very much worth it. The new sense of smell, and deep breathing never get old. Further the non stop trips to the local marts will become a thing of the past. It's crazy how much time/money you save by not making those routine trips.
Congrats and if you ever need some advice on the vape or juice let me know, I'd love to share my knowledge with anyone that will listen!
(Side note - vapes are 100% safer then cigs. There are studies proving this, you just have to find them)
(Side note 2 - July 4th is my 4 years of only vaping)
Gratz man on the 4 year! Also cheers for the comment :)
Hey good job @raymonjohnstone! Something really cool about vaping is you can actually lower your nicotine level along the way if you want to. So, it's a great way to ween yourself off of nicotine too. Quitting smoking is the next habit I plan to break. I have tried vaping but just got frustrated with the time it takes to repair coils and what not. Maybe I will eventually try again one day.
Keep up the good job! I am sure your lungs love you for it.
Yeppers I am loving it, I am already starting to breath easier.
I stopped smoking since 1 year now, and it's definitely recommended. I feel brand new since then.
I must admit the first week was a real struggle but after that it got easier and easier, until a month ago where I started craving for cigarettes again after seeing my friends some at a party, this is the moment where u should step up your game and don't be a B*tch.
I hope u can keep vaping, you will feel much better when u quit smoking, trust me!
Absolutely man, thank you for the words of encouragement.
If you need any help with vaping or with the no cigarettes struggle, feel free to ask me anything.
Thank you very much man, I really appreciate that, are you a vaper?
Yeah, I vape 70/30 vg/pg, but I'm still using pre-build coils, I'm like a starting cloud chaser. I love big clouds and I don't really care about the taste :D
I like clouds but taste is great too, the one my vape guy started me on was this nice sweet watermelon strawberry dash of mint, it was so lovely, I am trying this cinnamon kinda one now called 12 monkies but its really thick. Keep steeming and keep vaping bro.
Yes definitely, those sweet flavoured juices are the best, I love them!
U to bro, and keep it up with the non smoking cigarettes part :D
Amazing job @raymonjohnstone, keep it up!
Every day is another day in the beginning of this process.
After a while you will start to count the weeks and months!
Vaping is so much more healthy than cigies!
Thanks bro! I am assuming you another vaper? I have started looking into custom wound coils already and I haven't even been vaping for a week yet lolz. Its fun! and cheers for the comment.
I am only vaping herb, because I started to notice all of the smoke was impairing my physical performance.
That makes sense too, there is a number of benefits, its called shatter right? good quality stuff where you are ?
A lot of vaporizers work great with dry herb.
I don't live in the US, Canada or Amsterdam so I can't get my hands on shatter. And even if I was able to get it, I would be too tempted to burn away the entire piece, haha.
Lolz fair enough :) keep steeming bro.
