I think if one more player could have stood out in each game then the result could have been different. Wrong team selection is the main cause of all the defeats. This is not my retrograde opinion. Whatever the experience Dinesh Kartik had, I think nobody except selectors had the expectation to play well by him in English condition.
Ashwin was not fit and everyone knows he is more effective along with Jadeja only. in English condition always Jadeja could have been a better choice than Kuldeep. Kuldeep and Kartik are surely shorter format player as Ishant is a longer format player only.

Rahane was surely out of form. We can't rely on past history but Pujara has that class which mattes most. they can't exclude Pujara from the squad. Nothing to say about pacers. Pandya's inclusion was not a bad idea. like Dhawan, Bijay, Rahul all are a good choice. Pant was in tremendous form, with confidence and emerging youngster of the country. He should be played right from the 1st test.
There was a time when Kapil Dev led the team with players like Dilip Vengsarkar Won test series in England against England. Next memory is Indian team with players like Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar winning test series against England in England. Saurav Ganguly was in terrific form and scored a couple of centuries. In all batting came good. Dilip Vengsarkar and Rahul Dravid were excellent batsmen.

I think Shikhar Dhawan should have been replaced after the first test
