As a father of 4 there are many milestones that need to be ticked off. All take a slow and steady process of experiment and learning, but there is always failure prior to success.
My oldest son is a 5 year old that is yet to master the art of riding a bike without the assistance of training wheels. This not an issue in my mind but there comes a time when a parent starts to feel ‘it is time’ this task is put to bed.
On a recent holiday to a small town the task was stepped up a notch. The timing was perfect, starting on grass the first push from Dad resulted in about a 20 metre ride without assistance. From here we progressed to riding on the footpath to then on the quiet roads. Now, two weeks on, there is still a minor hiccup occasionally (aka stack) but all in all things are now on the right track.
Overall, it shows that learning a new skill is process driven and eventually everything aligns.
2 more kids to go!!
