In the murder case of local Imam Merajuddin Munshi of Sutinakla village under Katiadi Upazila of Kishoreganj, the court handed down life imprisonment to 11 people including three siblings. In addition, each person has been fined Tk 50,000. Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abu Taher of the third court of Kishoreganj today announced the verdict in the presence of the accused on Wednesday (May 9th).
Those who were sentenced to life imprisonment are Allaah Shah, Moklesur Rahman, Shah and Ataur Rahman Shah, Shamsuddin Shah, Safir Uddin Shah, Ranjan Shah, Oihid Shah, Chandan Shah, Aslam Mia, Montu Mia and Jamal Shah.
Besides, convict Sabuj Mia, Kanchan Saha, Fazlu Saha, Rafiq Bhuiyan, Jalal Uddin Shah and Lipton were convicted under section 324 of the Penal Code and each has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000 for further three months. Apart from being convicted under section 148 of the Penal Code, each has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and Tk. 20 thousand fine and further three months' rigorous imprisonment. Both bars will run together. As the allegations were not proved in the absence of evidence, another eight accused in the case were acquitted.
According to the case details, in the morning on March 24, 2000, in the morning, a local group of deceased Imam Marijuddin Munshi alias Abu Zahir died in a clash between two parties in Sutinakla village of Dhuldia union under Katiadi Upazila. The elder brother of the deceased Abu Bakar filed a case with Katiadi Police Station. After the police investigation, 33 people filed a charge sheet against the court. Eight accused died during the trial.
