Green Energy & Fossil Fuels - A Short Note

in #life8 years ago

From decades, research and development in green energy has resulted in many new technologies that can reduce our dependence on coal, oil, and natural gas.

What is Green Energy?

Green energy is defined to be an energy that comes from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, algae and geothermal heat.

Difference between Green Energy and Fossil Fuels?

The resources of green energy are renewable and has smaller impact on environment, they're naturally replenished. In contrast, fossil fuels are a finite resource that take millions of years to develop and will continue to diminish with use. They also create pollution all over.

What makes it a better option than fossil fuels?

Green energy can replace fossil fuels in all major areas of use including electricity, water and space heating and fuel for motor vehicles. It is much cheaper than coal and has a plethora of other benefits. Some of the big issues associated with the use of fossil fuels are environmental pollution and climate change.

Where does it all started?

In 1800s, all of the energy ever used was renewable. But in the mid-1800s the development of coal as an energy source began and soon the whole world started using it. During those very years, scientists feared that mankind would end the supply of coal. In the late 1800s and the early 1900s, the development of solar energy and solar engines began which continued up until the outbreak of the first world war.

What do we Foresee?

In an article published in Scientific American during this time, it was written that;

In the far distant future, natural fuels having been exhausted, [solar power] will remain as the only means of existence of the human race, and today, more than a hundred years later, scientists and people around the world harbor the same sentiments and fears.

With regards to the topic, there i expected to be a huge shout-out to India and China. Not only for India, but for all of the human race as well. India aims to continue the support for renewable energy while simultaneously reducing the use of coal and other fossil fuels for the production of electricity, resulting in cheap and clean energy production. While China has the largest production of electricity by renewable energy sources, which is almost double of the US's electricity production by renewable energy.

Electricity production by renewable energy sources is expected to rise to 50% by 2040.

China's National Energy Administration (NEA) announced that it would invest 361 billion dollars in the renewable energy sector, over the next three years which will create many potential jobs. While US President Donald Trump seeks to create coal jobs, US could probably do better if the same time and effort was invested in green energy.

Concluding Remarks...

To invest in renewable energy sources, will left us in a more secure and a pollution-free environment. Following this, will create millions of Jobs resulting in the eradication of another dilemma of society i.e. unemployment and people will finally able to provide for themselves and their families. Contrary to this, if we do the opposite and keep on doing that. we might fall into the deeper scariest holes dug by our ownselves.

Great read! Thank you for the insight.

Very true, we'll need to move a little faster though if we want to avoid the catastrophic damages of Climate Change though.

We're lucky that the trend is in the right direction anyway, because all we need to do is speed it up

love it @perfectionist - informative post for those unfamiliar with green energy. Do you have a background in clean tech/renewables?

Upvoted and followed.

Let me know your thoughts on my recent post with regards to ecouraging governments to divest from fossil fuels.
