That is awesome idea. No chestnuts here though. One time I was in the mountains in late summer and found an apple tree full of apples. The apple tree was not there naturally. Someone planted it long ago. The problem is that the high altitude created a short season for the apple tree and did not provide enough time for the apples to ripen. They were so bitter that they were impossible to eat. My friend suggested to cook them in the camp fire. We cut them into thin apple slices. We had a expanded metal grate that we were able to suspend over the hot coals. I put the thin apple slices over the heat and roasted them. Once they were cooked, they were the best apples that I ever had. I never knew that we could make such a great treat.

Sounds nice @socky, I lived in Colorado at the altitude of 7,980 feet..... our living room elevation. People told me you couldn't grow apple trees in this high desert, so I created micro climates around the house. The apple trees grew well, they just never produced any fruit. Good times, and we saw -22 below..... :)

That is really high up there. That sounds something that I would try just to prove I could do it.
