ONE POWERFUL VLOG

in #life7 years ago

So powerful, you may even call it electrifying!

It's been a while since I've done a vlog down on my land, so I figured it was about time. As you may have heard me mention, we decided to go on grid, but I had some stipulations. I wanted to keep the power poles, power lines, and meter almost off our property. Basically, if I had to give up any space or right of way, I wanted it to be minimum and to allow us to keep some privacy. Here's how it worked out.

THE POWER VLOG

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

back in the day I was a meter reader for the co-op. You're doing it exactly right. I wished more folks had your forethought. You would not BELIVE what I had to go thru every month to read meters. Bulls were the worse (in the country) ...then chihuahuas (in the back yards of homes in the small town that I had to service)...those little suckers will BITE.
big dogs...not so much.
Odd that.

Yeah, we might have some animals that won't exactly be friendly, so why risk it. Thanks man!

Papa-pepper you are such a nice hard working and intelligent man. I am you faithful follower. And every thing your posts are original and always found it educative most especially on home steady. Keep the good work

Thank you my friend!

Great thought process on the power situation. I like the idea of keeping privacy, and having underground lines to the house. This is the first post of yours I've come to, and I'm a fan. Good luck building! It's such a huge project to take on (we've been working on our place for 5 years). I look forward to seeing how it progresses. :)

Very cool! Nice to meet you and thanks for commenting!

I can see you put a lot of thought into the power lines , was solar panels not an option. Cheers mike

It was, but the up front cost was the main issue.

Prices have come down over the last few years but yes it’s still expensive

Yeah, there is no time to buy like the present, but....

Papa pepper you great you are a motivator nice topic amaze me

you never know how you can surprise me I like how you have organized your points. You're the best to learn, after you've really given me more experience on how to organize

We do, and most of the minnows invest lot of time to create good content and share good experiences but I think it takes some time to stand with respect in steemit.

Nice comment, and point taken. It is a good reminder and a difficult task, but we try to do what we can.

Thanks for reply, the result of purity!!!!

Hey Papa.

You are so inspiring with every concept you come up with. Thought it was a little difficult for me to understand you clearly, perhaps due to accent differences but, all the same, it was a nice watch! The environment is so natural so beautiful. I suggest you employ the services of dtube when next you vlog in order to be well rewarded

Do you really have to have a 30 ft easement for access to the poles? Also, do you guys in the USA have smart meters, that are digital. Here in Canada or at least in Ontario it is the law to have smart meters. Thanks for sharing, it was refreshing to see someone running a muck with a T shirt on. LOL

there are smart meters in some places.

So great post . I like it . Best of luck .

Cool layout I can see a lot of thought went into it. Smart move not having power lines running through your woods.

that is good video, welldone @papa-pepper

You should be doing some maintenance of the electrical equipment you use, it should be done periodically to prevent short-circuit and other things we do not want, good work @papa-pepper.

please follow

If only we had thought of that 30 years ago when we put a 100 year old removal house on rural land in Queensland. Mind you we do have a bit of a volcanic rock problem, so it might not have been feasible to do the trenching. The power authority had enough trouble just getting the one pole in the ground LOL!

Dear @papa-pepper I always find more knowledge in reading your post. You are a great man most especially in homesteading. You have impacted more life here on steemit. Pls keep the good work moving. Thank you

pretty much got things set to go

Wow. This will be an exciting summer for you guys. Looking forward to it :-)

we certainly have their own thoughts about something that you think it should be maintained, everything that nature provides is the inheritance of our children and grandchildren, all we have to take care of and care for, many people who do not care and they think there is no time to think about it , this nature is not good to imitate
I love you @papa-pepper. greeting of peace

Derp.. Bots gone crazy... FFS

Bots gone crazy?!?!?! Reminds me too much of "Girls Gone Wild." What are you watching now @klye? lol

What's your video rig? You may want to look into getting a wind screen (that would take care of the wind/popping noise). Thanks for showing us around! :)

Hmmm.... I'll have to figure it out. I'm just using the REBEL T7i.

Ah, sweet. They make these little mics (google "shot-gun mic") that you can mount on to the hot-shoe mount of your SLR that, in addition to having better audio, have the little windscreen deal on them.

Sounds well thought out. I would prefer to be off grid with solar and wind power. But that almost impossible in UK.
Once your on you can't get off they like their money too much. But here every thing is lot smaller so its easier for them to check up on you. 💯🐒

I agree with everything you are doing with the power to your property. Keeping the power poles off the property as much as you can is an excellent idea. I don't have any on my property. I wet a little further than just a fence. I put up a wall with a massive gate that leaves no doubt in anyone's mind that this is private property. I often have my granddaughter here and I want her to be safe. Also, my animals as there are coyotes in the vicinity. We often hear them at night.

Looks like you are ready to start on the house. I can't wait to see what you do with the shipping container. My son has purchased his land and has two containers sitting on the property ready to go. Perhaps this means I will have more grandchildren in the future! :)

My contribution for you @papa-pepper

Awesome project to expand your capabilities on your land.

A fence & gate system seems like a good idea, and it also sends a clear message that this land is private property, since it's not always clear to someone when they may be trespassing.

Good luck with the project and stay safe.
