P. K. Dick and the role of classic Science Fiction literature

in #life8 years ago

My generation and the previous one owe a lot the classic Science Fiction. We grew up as adult men also by reading those novels and stories. I'm talking of the books of Clarke, Dick, Bradbury, Asimov, Heinlein, Sheckley, Ballard, Simak, Pohl, Herbert, Brunner, Anderson and so on. These writers taught us to think and to be free from bias.

I painted this portrait of Philip K Dick as a first hommage to them.

I always enjoyed his writing. He wove events in his own (very peculiar) life into his stories and his characters were always a reflection of himself. I read a short biography of him and he was as fascinating himself as any of his stories.

Ciao bello, ė veramente fantastico di averti qui con noi. You are super COOL!

A question, how did you and your wife hear about Steemit?

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

thx @kus-knee :)
I saw a Steemit post shared on Twitter, that's how we found it :)

Hey brother, why don't you do a post about that? We would love to read the details and the whales would love it too! I envision many artists displaying their work here and having another revenue source!

good idea! I just have to recover the post that brought we here :)

When you're ready to post it let me know and I'll help you promote it. There are lessons to learn from your experience regarding cross marketing using Twitter.

It would also be good to know if you were already involved in crypto currencies etc..

sure! thx!
about cryptocurrencies, honestly, I just learned the basics

ok, I'm ready to post the tale of our discovering of Steemit. which hour of the day is the best to post, as far as you know?

Great portrait! His books were/are HUGE influence for me. Perhaps your painting will be influence and inspiration as well.

thx Ubik. BTW, I don't think I can influence/inspire anyone. :)

Well I had some thoughts about it before, but after seeing this portrait I must do tribute paintings to some people as well. :) In general I think everyone is an inspiration for someone.

Ah, P. K. Dick, a real 'mind expander.' If you like science fiction, I can't imagine not LOVING Mr. Dick. He died at at 53, but I bet had he lived another 20 to 25 years, we would have been treated to so much more incredible work from this amazing writer. I always found The Minority Report just a fantastic work, and I love A Scanner Darkly, also. I guess I should just say I like about everything he did, because that's about the size of it.

I think I'm gonna head over to Google Play and rent A Scanner Darkly. Too late to start reading. :-D

Very nice portrait!
