Excessive concerns: How to fight them?

When human beings begin to think too much about something, which in some way generates great anxiety, this is where we can say that there is an excess of concern, and although this phenomenon is part of the nature of any individual is an interesting topic that can not be overlooked, I believe that all human beings have at some point gone through a stressful situation in our lives, when this happens our emotional energy is depleted, anxiety levels increase which generates a great deterioration in the quality of life of any person.

Today I want to approach this interesting topic because due to the economic, political and social crisis that our country is going through Venezuela, the people that live here face daily a constant worry either for the lack of food, medicines, transportation, security, between many other reasons that cause excessive worries in the life of the Venezuelan.

Many times I have heard that all excesses are bad, surely you have also heard that phrase once, for this subject that phrase is no exception, although it is true that worrying can be very useful on the one hand because it helps you in your moment to think and solve some conflict that is being presented to you, on the other hand when the worries go to an excess level it becomes a problem because it generates restlessness, physical and mental exhaustion, muscular tension, headaches, insomnia and even lack of concentration and appetite.

Particularly I am going through an overly worrisome situation, in the sector where I live two weeks ago an electrical power transformer was damaged, the competent body does not have the way to replace it with a new one and therefore we are without electric power in our homes, the concern for this problem is so intense that it has affected even the way we relate to other people, there are many times when irritability makes an appearance, but although they are very difficult emotions to control you must always look for how to suppress the stress that this generates.

How to fight against these concerns?

  1. Thinking about ourselves, it is good to ask ourselves from time to time what is more important if that problem or our health, we already saw how worrying in an excessive way can damage not only our mental health but also the physical one, so it is good to take things with calm and think about our welfare.

  2. Do activities that help you relax, deep breathing is an ideal exercise to reduce anxiety, but there are many other activities that can help you to distract the mind such as sports, shopping, taking a walk, listening to music, reading a book.

  3. Talking about the problem with other people is also good, it helps alleviate the emotional burden.

  4. Focus on the present and not on the future, we usually think a lot about tomorrow, about what might or might not happen and this generates concern. Try to live one day at a time, remember that every day you have your own problems.

  5. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and leave the negatives aside, remember that if your life is full of dark thoughts you will be unhappy, if you keep positive thoughts in your life you will be a cheerful person.

We all have worries, the important thing is to see them as a drop of dew and not transform them into a sea of confusion. The only difference is that some of them focus with optimism and with the certainty that at the end of the tunnel there is always light, while in the others the darkness envelops the being. You are right, all excesses are bad. Nice suggestion to cope with this condition, either it is because of worries or any type of tension. It would be definitely difficult to follow these suggestions and getting the said results immediately in the beginning, but it will improve with time.
