Sheesh. My kids leave their chargers plugged in all the time & I go around the house unplugging things constantly, muttering things like, "Electricity costs money y'all!" Now I have something else to mutter about. ;)
Yes!! Pull that thing outa there!! Better safe than sorry!
That would be pretty scary to have happened. I am not convinced that it wouldn't have started a fire. That was a stroke of luck that you found it and a happy accident to get zapped by your own charger.
Good advice!

Tip!
Glad you found the problem since it really could have started the fire.
Thank you for sharing this with us, so that we can keep a closer eye to things like this.
Was it charging the phone at the time?
Are the phone and charger still working.(apart from the chord, of course)?
No the phone was in the house. This must have started in the night. The phone still works perfectly and the cigarette lighter to usb thingie is fine as well. The car started but it had worn down the battery some.
Ahh..then you got a short circuit. Most likely in the plug that goes into the phone or in the cable itself. Most likely the plug.
So classic and fabulous :-)

Made in China was it :)
That is so dangerous. I always unplug everything every night including the washing machine. (Some have spontaneously caught fire here!)
Plus the fact that even on standby mode these appliances are drawing a third of their usual power consumption even when not in use.
Yikes ! That's no good ! I have read about phone chargers melting or catching on fire, but I have not known of it happening to anyone I actually know.... till now. I leave my phone on the charger all night on my nightstand. So far no issue, but it does make me want to rethink.
Glad it had only melted when you found it and did not set your hummer on fire.
