SELF FULFILLING PROPHESY: You caused it!

Have you wondered why you sometimes believe something will definitely happen to you and it does? Or why you were so sure the man won't like you and he didn't? Or why you just knew out of evryone in your large class you would be called up to answer the question and you were? Some think it is because they have psychic predicting powers - not really... I don't think you do.

It is most likely because you activated the 'Self Fulfilling Prophesy', more like self sabotage really.

The self-fulfilling prophecy is, in the beginning, a false definition of the situation evoking a new behavior which makes the original false conception come true. This specious validity of the self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuates a reign of error. For the prophet will cite the actual course of events as proof that he was right from the very beginning.

What this means that there is a positive correlation between belief and behavior.

What you might have had in mind might have been false but because you believed it, you began to exhibit certain behaviors that made it comes true.

Let's use the case of the student (Ella) in a large class.
So the lecturer says: 'i have a question for the class ad i'm going to pick one of you to answer it' (with the best straight face he could iron out)

On hearing this, Ella goes: 'I know this man his going to call me, I just know it'.

Viola, she did know it cause she got pick! But what she might not know is she caused her being selected. How? She must have exhibited behaviors that placed a big red arrow side on her head that screamed PICK ME PICK ME I'M RIPE FOR THE PICKING

Same thing applies to other situations where we have allowed what we believe (even when it is false) become our reality. It is the basic principle explained by law of attraction also.

The bible has also told us of how powerful our thoughts are and advises you think of good things.
Philipians 4:8
'Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.'

So, when next things are not going so fine and you know you had predicted it before now, don't blame your ancestors, don't blame that old woman in your village living her own life. Instead, check yourself because you most likely cause it!

The law of attraction definitely works! My husband and I are trying to keep our minds on positive things and think good thoughts for this purpose!

Beliefs – the most powerful things in the world.

One of the most powerful.. If you can believe, you can move mountains.. Basic truth

The most powerful. When our beliefs can't be questioned, they control us, we don't control them.

Is arguable... Really someone else might come and say it is self assurance or self love or courage or even contentment... For me to agree it is the most powerful, there has to be a more powerful argument

You almost got it right in that your first response is one of skepticism but you’re asking for a “more powerful argument” when you should be asking for evidence. Arguments without evidence are just opinions.

Carl Sagan said, 'Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence' and I have spent over 15 years gathering the evidence. I have also spent two months and almost all my blog posts on the subject.

You should check them out. Start with “ReThinking Beliefs - An Overview” then if you think it’s interesting read the next one. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes but be forewarned, it explains human behavior in a way you probably have never heard before and it could turn your understanding of the world upside-down. If it clicks, it will be like taking the "red pill".

If presented with hard scientific evidence that I’m wrong, I have to change my mind. Will you? Can you? Because if you can’t you’re kind of proving my point. :-)

And it wasn't a scientific evidence.. Mentioning that it uses chemicals in the brain without mentioning what chemicals doesn't make it compelling enough.

Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to say our beliefs aren't powerful. In fact, I think because i didn't state it as being most powerful might have seemed to you as me downplaying it's power. But, what if I say it is the mind that is more powerful? It houses beliefs, thoughts, intent.... So don't not say your mind is your belief.

You are yet to produce hard scientific evidence yourself but i must confess.. Although your posts didn't understanding of the world upside down, it did give me a better off what memes are.

I study human behavior, hell it is what i probably spend the rest of my life doing. It might not be 15 years (and i respect that) but it is good years well spent.

That’s right! You’re asking a great question that needs to be addressed. I’m trying to keep my posts down to around 1000 words and after the general topics are introduced I will get into specifics. The “brain chemicals beliefs use” post is on my to do list. In the meantime you can watch a video I did on the subject: Ep02 How Beliefs Work (It’s not great but it will give you an idea of where I’m going with this.)

I didn’t think you were downplaying beliefs’ power but honestly I’m trying to be a bit provocative with you to see how you question the idea. This will allow me to adjust how I present the evidence in future blog posts.

And again you’re right about no hard scientific evidence for memes and that’s because there are no “hard” ways to measure them. How do you measure an idea or belief after all? (Blog post!) There is however a massive amount of hard scientific data that supports the idea of memes. Put another way, scientific theories (facts) support the meme hypothesis and that's what my blog is all about.

I don’t think there is anything more important than understanding human behavior because if we get it right we can solve humanities problems. If the problem is “we don’t understand the problem,” then it’s easy to see why we still have problems! Memes not only provide a way to understand human behavior but the solutions. That’s my ultimate goal.

True.. Almost like our thoughts send off signals to the universe... I recently was dealing with a reoccurring thought that got me a bit paranoid.. Truth is steemit cured me... Spending time on Steemit cancelled every chance of the thought popping up and me getting paranoid.

Great post and I completely agree with what you said. Everything that we think we can do and the things we cannot do our all in our mind and if we only harness the power of our mind the right way, we can honestly achieve all that we desire of.

Like the Nigeria Association of Psychology student would say do it with the mind. It has so much power.
