RE: No Names Left To Use

It's the perfect tool for the job and act more like a deterrent. Folks just need to be responsible which for the most part, they are. Need to be responsible with your reactions to them as well. I've seen a few people do far more damage to themselves by reacting poorly than damage from the actual downvote.

I've found it's always better to ask someone who knows what's going on, rather than jumping to conclusions. Definitely wiser than going on a rant.

I've tried talking people down from those rants quite often. I've had some success. Those are difficult conversations and can lead to problems down the road if they're unstable, in general. Can't let those types walk all over you though. Their poor choices are their own responsibility. Some people aren't wired to realize that and there's no getting through. Totally wreck themselves. Preventable but not always.

Then there will be those who see your help as taking the downvoter's side, and it could really go downhill from there...

That happens often. Almost every time actually. It's really annoying but that reaction tells you a lot about them, how they see things, how honest they are, can tell if they're covering things up or trying to hide something. Can tell if they're just fighting for the sake of fighting or if they truly want help. I know a lot about people.

It also says that they don't really read what was said, and think about their response. If one tells a new Bee in a neutral manner why something happened, whether positive or negative, that's simply information (aka help). For example if they get downvotes, then reply to their post asking why, and are told, they shouldn't shoot the messenger! You can bet they won't get any more help from that person, and perhaps not from anyone else who comes across the conversation.
