A Couple of Slow Days Later: Are You Still Out There?

in #life5 years ago (edited)

That's not a question for those who'd rather pretend I don't exist.
I think it's been getting quiet around here for a lot of people, lately.
What's up with that?
Are we getting bored?

NoNamesLeftToUse - Where cover.png

I suppose there's no point in complaining.

Business as usual, for me.

Have you noticed: My posts can be quite long at times.

If our content can exist and generate rewards, wouldn't it be wise to put in a solid effort? I think so.

If half of the rewards our content generates goes to those supporting it, shouldn't those supporting it have to earn those rewards as well? I think so.

LOL!

You folks voting with STEEM got a 100% raise recently!

That's right! You're getting paid more to consume and enjoy content. If I hear one more of you silly humans grumble about having to read a long article from me, my left eyelid will not only twitch, but it might just explode!

Of course, I'm just messing around, but there is some truth to that.

I admire this business model.

I think offering a cut to curators is the bee's knees and the cat's meow. Most of the competition out there with a similar business model takes a cut. Youtube for instance. Almost half of the ad revenue generated from an individual's content production effort goes straight to Google.

I'm certain most platforms offering revenue to producers take some kind of a cut. Your content is how they make money. That's just how it is.

Those supporting Youtube content — the fans and supporters — they get nothing.

Since a portion of all revenue generated from my work will always be going somewhere, of course, as a content producer, I prefer seeing that cut go to those who are the fans and supporters of my work, rather than enriching a select few who do not give two shits or a flying fuck about what I'm doing.

So of course, if I'm working hard to produce content, and you're getting paid to consume it, complaining about something like a post being too long just seems silly.

Take your time.

Enjoy.

That's what it's there for. That's why I'm paying you.

Anyway.

This is supposed to be an art post.

Something peculiar happens around here when it comes to art posts though.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I could spend hours formulating a well-written article, story, or spectacle, and some might think the post is too long.

I could spend many more hours producing art, share that here as a finished product, and some might think the post is too short.

You've already seen about thirty to forty minutes worth of artistic effort here in this post, and maybe didn't pay much attention to it.

That's fine. It's only the thumbnail.

This also happened!

NoNamesLeftToUse - You Took My Beans.png
You Took My Beans

Some of you who've been following and paying attention for a long while here in my world might recognize that style. It's yet another piece of a puzzle intended to go along with a much larger project I've been working on and will continue to work on for quite some time.

Bonus content!

Some 'behind the scenes' stuff.

Producing art and then blogging about the process isn't my style. I prefer to combine the art with some creative writing or life rambles, to help keep things fresh, rather than producing repetitiveness leading to monotony. This recent post is a fine example of that one-two combo I like to deliver.

I'm quite fond of this layer though:

NoNamesLeftToUse - You Took My Beans L2.png

Most of the time required to produce You Took My Beans was spent on that portion. I think it's good enough to be a standalone piece, so I felt like showing that off here today as well.

Anyway.

I've a strange feeling it might be a bit of a ghost town around here after I hit that fancy post button, but I'll still be available to shoot the shit about whatever in the comment section if you're up for it.

Have a nice day.

I feel like you are calling me out for not commenting too often so now I’m here in your comments. I’m half asleep and can’t form coherent thoughts, let alone sentences, but I’m here, lurking.

I view your visual art as your self portraits, am I completely wrong in thinking so?

No one cares 😳😂🤷🏼‍♂️

Half asleep? I ended up falling fully asleep. Didn't even notice until now. Had a dream about working in a shitty retail store. I was about to take a sweater and leave? So confusing.

Self portraits? No. These side profiles are just random thoughts. You'll see them on coins and inside pyramids. On playing cards. They're everywhere.

Hi NoNamesLeftToUse,
What kind of Artwork are those in your posting...?

My own creations, my own style, produced digitally.

Awesome...

Hello!? Anyone out there? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

a select few who do not give two shits

You hear about people not giving a shit and people not giving two shits, but never about someone not giving three shits.

English must be really hard to learn as a second language.

I don't hear about people taking three shits unless they have some kind of an issue or maybe ate the wrong thing.

I used to take pride in keeping my English simple here, so those who are not fluent can still enjoy the content. Then I realized I can't go a day without using slang, local slang, and idioms. So there goes that idea.

¿Slangs? ¿Local slangs? ¿Indigenous, autochthonous & vernacular idioms?

What's that @nonameslefttouse? I never heard or used them in my timelife. Gee, I wouldn't even dare to publicly share my content written in spanglish.

I think there has only been one day that has passed where I have passed thrice.

I don't include the runny days. That's a different story.

Yeah you can't count those days! ha!

One Big Mac from Calgary liquefied and lasted three days...
I thought that was worth mentioning.

Dear Diary, it wasn't even dairy this time...

I'm here. You might think it's quiet but we're all just skulking around here enjoying the art.

Yeh my feed has been quieter for a while now which has made it easier to keep up with and also means I actually have time to venture out into tags... when I don’t get distracted working on my own stuff which happened yesterday and then I kind of just dashed through my feed dropping upvotes before going to bed 😅 definitely not getting bored yet, just the usual life stuff happening in my case, don’t know about anyone else.

I do recognise the style, sadly I’m not smart enough to piece anything together so I’ll just enjoy the pieces and hope that maybe one day in the future you’ll explain all if the project is one of those that has a completion.

Posted using Partiko iOS

My feed as well. Things were picking up for awhile though.

It's tough to be both roles. Producing the posts takes time.

The project has an end game but it'll take forever to get there. These days I can't focus on only one project. Kinda all over the place.

!BEER, just because I have not given enough out this week.

Hey @ryivhnn, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

I hope you find that motherfucker who took your beans and then carve him into tiny bean-size pieces with your chainsaw.

To answer your question, no, I am not still out here.

You're still not here?!? Must have been you then. You took the beans!

I heard they were magic. I'm going to dig a hole in the frozen tundra that is my backyard and plant the beans in the hole and then sit here excitedly waiting for them to sprout when spring arrives next July.

It certainly sounds like you know your gardening techniques well. What kind of plant comes out of a bean anyway? I've always wondered.

I think planting beans is how you get fart flowers. But, if these are actually magic beans, who knows what's going to grow. I'm sure whatever I get will be entertaining.

Hey @brandt, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

Thanks, that's awful thoughtful of you. How'd you know I like beer?

Thanks! That should keep me alive for at least another half hour.

Well ain't this post the bees knees

That gif gives me knee pain just thinking about it.

Hey! That's why we're here... I think?

Hey @davedickeyyall, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

Is that one new? My reading comprehension is a little low right now due to a dog continually licking me, children "sleeping" but definitely not sleeping, and the scent of permanent marker I have been sniffing for the last hour while putting the finishing touches on a cardboard bulldozer. I believe you said it is new, in which case I think I see the connection to the series, because that profile looks rather familiar.

Yeah, you just can't make everyone happy (says the woman with a low readership and a whole ten fingers to point at various causes). I find myself criticizing my fluff words. Nobody is going to want to read all this, just get to the point. But art is in the fluff. Got to keep the fluff, or not, as the case may be.

Totally new. Just finished it today.

It's been a minute since I last sniffed markers. They used to be stronger and what happen to the friends that used to show up? Did they take that out of the markers?

It's quiet around here. I do my best to not take it personally. I write probably too often about the shortage of curators. Should be 100 to every content producer at least. Instead, we content producers who already spent all day writing, writing in comments. Of course it'll get quiet after awhile.

Hey @ginnyannette, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

!BEER, just because I have not given enough out this week.

It's the spooky month, I think that is why it feels like a ghost town, but there does seem to be a slow down, I know I have not felt like doing much this last week other than play Civilization V for far to many hours this week, but being retired, I get to pretty much do as I please. So long form or short form, if it is fun to read it is fun to read. !BEER since I have not been handing enough out lately. I think I will give your other contented content readers a sip of beer also.

I haven't tried that game. Looks to be confusing to a noob like me. I've been hooked on Kerbal Space Program for years.

I'm not really a fan of all this beer spam. Is there a way to buy a round for all commentators under a post?

I understand, and will try to remember and not do it again.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Would you take it personally if I downvoted the spam, just to help clean things up and make the comment section a little easier on the eyes?

Not at all. We should all be able to control what we want yelled out in our homes or business establishments, so no I do not object.

It is a little quiet these days. Maybe because it's almost Halloween?

Does Halloween make people quiet now? Are they celebrating in hiding? Does your strange land do the dress up and send the kids out to gather sugar thing?

I believe it does make them quiet. It's a theory I am working on with some of the greatest scientific minds in the galaxy.

They do do that here! I find it rather peculiar!

I think all that beer spam is chasing people away. I used my scientific mind to find out if this post made the top 10 most commented on without the spam, and it did.

So now, not only am I saying it seems quiet, I have actual proof. Halloween and beer spam. The folks using bidbots never commented here anyway so their departure isn't the issue. Maybe it's harvest season and everyone is busy in the field, doing the canning, digging the potatoes, sacking and a stacking the potatoes. I don't know what I'm talking about.

Hahaha, yeah, I can see them now. It in the fields getting in the harvest, hahaha!!!

Congratulations @nonameslefttouse!

I don't know enough about digital anything to know how you produce your art. I've never seen anything like it. It's definitely dramatic and different.

Dramatic and different is a good thing, in my mind.

It definitely can be but just as there is the 10% on the front end of that curve there is the back end..so, lead us forward into more creative and different ideas. I'm pretty average at this creative business.

It does seem to be somewhat quiet. It actually reminds me of when I joined. Steem was 10 cents and you knew the majority of the folks making comments. It was kind of like a nice small club. You know we may never get to be more than a niche site, but I guess I am ok with that.

I'd like to see more action around here, focused on content, rather than internal drama and politics.

No eyeballs, but instead of bots, curation trails doing their job, generating income to steempower holders.

Tough to carry on when folks consistently prefer to get paid to look away.

Not gonna lie, I'm one of those who fell off the steem wagon in the past week or so. But I have an excuse! Blame it on bronchitis and general October malaise. 🙃

Also, I applaud your ability to create so consistently. I'd be lying if I didn't admit that 10 (maybe 11? or did I make it to 12?) days straight of writing and editing early in the month (alongside life/parenting/day job) didn't burn me out, since I generally tend to publish medium to longer length posts.

Ah life and work and adult responsibilities - why do you have to get in the way of my passion projects?!?!

I definitely didn't make it even halfway through my Blogtober initiative. (That, by the way, is super popular in the "mainstream" blogging world but nobody on Steem was doing besides me, it seemed 😂)

Anyway, keep on creating! Content like yours is one of the reasons why a noob like me sticks around, tbh.

I'm actually taking a short break due to a bit of an illness and being tired. It's a tough gig, that's for sure.

Content like yours is one of the reasons why a noob like me sticks around, tbh.

That means a lot to me. Thank you. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the groove within the next day or two.

Dude if I based whether or not Steemit was quiet by your comment sections I'd think it a rather bustling place on a constant basis! The communal rec center persists (Thank ze gods)

Still the busy place. I'm thinking that's where three years of playing for the people — rather than the bots, paid votes, and shortcuts — leads.

Those supporting Youtube content — the fans and supporters — they get nothing.

That is really the thing for me that makes Steem awesome. The more you put in, the more you get out of it. That goes for both curation and posting.

Of course it sucks that the price of Steem mostly just moves in a negative direction, but hopefully that will turn around soon.

Yes ... I understand you)) If I post a photo of a wooden sculpture ... what garbage it is, one photo ... but I did it for several days)))

Yeah, it's been quiet on my Pundays the last few weeks, too.

I have a theory that I don't think you'll like. And really, it just confirms my own bias, so maybe it's not worth the zeroes and ones the computer will use to transform my thoughts into words you'd read, but regardless...

It's disheartening for the majority of users, this new Steem.

Not the 50/50, which I think most people are ok with. Not the downvotes, which I think most people are ok with. The curve. It's baffling and frustrating and legit gives more power to the powerful at the expense of the already less powerful.

Lots of folks keeping on keeping on, but lots of folks walk away when they're frustrated and confused, and it's frustrating and confusing.

Anywhoodles. Speaking of a ghost town, this post of yours is two weeks old! I came by to see what you'd posted lately because I figured I must have missed some of your posts since I hadn't seen you in a while. Figured my busy-ness must have made that happen. But I guess it was that you hadn't posted.

Obviously.

Have you been doing backflips on that trail bike again? I’ve heard a few weeks in traction limits your mobility, hopefully you have a good Nurse to help you with the essentials at least 😉

Yo. Where are you brother? Did you decide to take that Greyhound bus trip after all?

The echo is fucking loud in here!

The echo is fucking loud in here!

The echo is fucking loud in here!

Hope you didn't forget your keys or kick the bucket! :-(

Where did you gooooooooooo?

I’m thinking its about time you come back! It’s time for your state of the Steem address. Happy new year!

come back

Okay! Yeesh...

😂yay!

Bro come on back, at this rate you would be hitting trending every time you post now!

i've always been out there. are you in there? its the annual slowing down of steem due to the season.
p.s. your posts are not long. try harder

Things do slow down periodically. That, I know.

I think I'm in here but if I am, I can't get out. Not even when I paint a door.

If I try any harder, who will notice?

you need Harolds Purple Crayon for the doors to work.

I will notice, when you say things like your posts are so long when really you just make the font bigger and put in lots of spaces and stick in strange photos. I vote for moar photos and moar words and maybe something alien. maybe show us the inside of your box and put a hole in it and draw a picture of the outside world by moonlight.

I ate the only purple crayon I had. Tasted nothing like grape.

The inside of my box is my private place. Nobody gets to see that.

but it sounds so... interesting.

!BEER, just because I have not given enough out this week.

Hey @torico, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

That one wasn’t that long. Size matters is just a sticker.

Just some life rambles today. Spent most of the time working on the art. There must be a sweet spot somewhere but I don't agree with guidelines getting in the way.

Rambles, art, guidelines, sweet spots. ....”and content in a pear tree!”

Mine are really long sometimes too man. I’ve heard quite a few things like “I’ll have to come back later” or “1,400 words?!” I’m sure you’ve heard similar, I've probably even said it you (though you speak satire) but I’m just “well, I guess that’s how many words I meant to type today then—uh, I’m not apologizing.”

Thanks for the content which, by the way, is just as entertaining as it was back when the rewards were $2-3, congratulations dude—long time coming. I love it when people get what they deserve.

I have heard similar over the years. I cut enough out though, when things are long. I don't find it too challenging to write a 30 minute read in a day, but I also know that's quite long, yet the people are getting paid. The TL;DR thing almost doesn't make sense here.

Going from $5 and always being stuck underground for years to what's happening now took some time to adjust to, mentally. Comes with some heavy baggage as well. Superficial nonsense. People see $30, and forget only half is mine. No reason to get jealous or be pissy, because there was a time plenty of us earned far more than 15, and people were happy.

I think it's been getting quiet around here for a lot of people, lately.
What's up with that?

That's right! You're getting paid more to consume and enjoy content. If I hear one more of you silly humans grumble about having to read a long article from me, my left eyelid will not only twitch, but it might just explode!

erm, ahem... by chance, it has never occurred to you to 'perpetrate' and launch some sort of slap-up contest or something fancy to wake up the masses so they get instantly willy-nilly involved in a dynamic of greater commitment and interaction with your content on weekends or for a lifetime?

I prefer seeing that cut go to those who are the fans and supporters of my work, rather than enriching a select few who do not give two shits or a flying fuck about what I'm doing.

Whoever that votes your shit without drop a yummy thought provoking comment as a clear proof they consumed & digested your content from top to bottom. They not only deserve witness your left eyelid twitching and exploding, but also a nice kick in their crotches and a harder one in their big, fat and lazy asses. };)

I can't be in 10 places at once either so I know why it gets quiet at times and totally get it. Not really a fan of contests. People can have their fun, their way. I don't think I'd had the time to organize something official and stay on top of things.

I can't be in 10 places at once either

Ah come on @nonameslefttouse. Aren't you like Multi Man, Fluid Man, or Coil Man?

¡You can do it! Get up your ass and bring us a cool outlandish contest. };)

It's getting salty out there! The rube mob are circling the wagons!

😂 👍

Hey, I didn't downvote you! You can't hit me with the frenchman!

Saw it on your post the other day and it did give me a laugh :)

I saw that group losing their minds. What a joke.

Hey @nonameslefttouse, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!
