Just a quick weekend post for today where I wanted to share another example of how the simple things in life really are the best. Yesterday, my wife was scheduled to work yet to our surprise, an early phone call provided us with the news that the shift had been cancelled! A day off together!
We thought we'd make the most of it so we first got a haircut for me. My wife does this, she's quite talented having done hair for weddings and the like before. I enjoyed it in the sun out the back getting a much needed trim.
Then we popped up the road to visit some friends for a brief while and then got the urge to do the old fashioned pizza, booze, icecream and movie night. Now I very seldom drink so this was something out of the ordinary for me. We went out to get the supplies and then came home.
Prior to starting the festivities, I decided to do a quick training session with Nayyerah, our young mare who we're breaking in. I again managed to mount her bare-back for only the second time ever. Those interested in more detail can read about the very first time I jumped on her back here. There's even a video of it.
With that success behind us, we sat down in the afternoon sun and started through some of our treats.
First was the noodlebox that we picked up for lunch. Boy it's expensive these days but again, we very rarely get the stuff so it was a real treat. How exciting!
...then came the collection of drinks. We selected only 4 bottles; a varied selection. My wife had never tried stout before (something that @meesterboom would be stunned to hear) so we just had to buy some Guinness. There was some Young's "double chocolate" stout, a lychee flavoured beer and then a good old ginger beer.
They all went down smooth... I'd forgotten what a head of Guinness even looked like! Very attractive.
By the way, the astute observer will notice the avocado seeds in the background of these shots. I'd "planted" them yesterday and am excited to see them sprout in the upcoming weeks.
Then we enjoyed some of the sun for a while with Nayyerah in the background and our lovely Ragdoll Katniss who loves her outdoor time.
Then it was time to head in, put the pizza in the oven and throw on the movie. An entirely enjoyable day and all for fairly little cost and complexity. The best days!
Tomorrow I start at a new job, something I'm sure I'll be writing about so stay tuned!
I loved your post , and its so true.
I have change my life ( in the last 2 years) to an extremely simple one, from an extremely chaotic, high energy 'existence' to one of peace and calmness.
Things I wouldn't have found 'joy' in only 2 years ago, (boring) offer hours of enjoyment.
I sit on our balcony every morning, with my girlfriend ( we are lucky it's sunny almost everyday). We just sit, chat , decide our schedule for the day, and listen to nature. Just BEING.
I wish I could impart my feelings of tranquility to those I see in life doing exactly what I was doing -but you can't. - they are too busy 'doing' to have any time to really listen.
And good luck with your new job !
100% upvote on that beautiful contribution @patriotwargamer! How true it is that one must necessarily give up the complexity and cost in life because the pursuit and maintenance of that type of lifestyle ends up costing so much more and really you only learning this after many decades of life experience through trial and error. You also hit the nail on the head when you described how this concept really can't easily be communicated from one to another. It seems very much to be something that needs to be self discovered and yes the boring stuff that we once avoided really is the valuable stuff. I've got a few years under my belt now and I'm only still just learning nuances of life in this regard and how wonderful it is to share similar thoughts with people such as yourself so thank you again for taking the time.
By the way where abouts in the world do you live? your balcony sounds wonderful.
Thanks for that !
I am originally from the UK, but after 20 years of traveling, I always keep coming back to Asia. - Thailand.
We have a small bungalow, on the edge of a semi jungle environment. So lots of nature and wildlife. ( I even have no problems with the cobra's and pit viper, to be honest)
I think the problem communicating the value of the simplicity, to thors not in that place, is a time issue.
Their perception of time is different than ours, and so the 'energy' is different. - like speaking the same language, but with two very pronounced dialects, that are not sympathetic to each other ears - not a good explanation, but maybe you see what I mean?
I grew up in a farming family, and was very keen t get away from it - wayyyy to boring.
In retrospect, I see how at peace with everything my dad was, and all the answers were there- not in the dozens of countries, and cities I went chasing around the word, to see.
He was wise enough to not bother saying anything, and wishing me luck as I set off !
Here is a present - I just took this - our resident gecko - we call him Godzilla, because in the gecko world, he pretty much is! - he's massive! lol
Enjoy!
What a wonderful history, thank you for sharing. I've been to Thailand once and found it very relaxing and I admire you for being able to take the step to move there, I'm sure there would have been lots of challenges in that regard including how to support yourself in an environment dissimilar to the one you grew up with. It sounds like you have a little Slice of Heaven there and it's something that I would like to entertain for us actually in the future possibly. It's not a move well suited to the horses however so there are always various considerations. Thanks so much for the picture, that little guy is really cute
No really, nothing to admire- have been traveling for too long, for anywhere to be 'something of a challenge'. It's a learned skill, like most things.
I definitely wouldn't inflict the heat and humidity on any horses that haven't grown up here!
Learned skill maybe but still an achievement in my eye. All the little details to potentially fall foul of... I suppose once you've visited often enough you come to pick up on most things.
The horses are Egyptian Arabians, well suited to the heat and difficulties of hot climates. They'd settle in fine, it's more the available space I'd be concerned about as I'd asume there isn't much in the way of agistment that way.
I would assume not, but I really don't know.
(it doesn't make much sense sense - pastures are not exactly abundant !)
I just took these - 45 mins ago - pre, and post cooking - thought you would appreciate them...
the pic with the fence in ?- the jungle is just on the other side!
cheers!
Wow! Thank you for the pics. They are indeed worth a thousand words. Parsley, right? Do you have your own chooks?
cilantro - but we have parsley - we have lots of everything -'herby'
(my girlfriend grow thai basil - different than European basil -oops you have been to Thailand, sorry - 'kapow' dish, you probably know - that herb flavor. My g/f supplies local markets here it - I was telling she could sell direct , all over the world for freshly picked, organic produce - freshly picked and and shipped in 24 hrs - but she doesn't seem too bothered-It's the Thai way
lol
life as it should be :)
Indeed @xgrosz! Thanks for dropping by.
It doesn't need especial to be, as long as you satisfied in what you. It makes you happy
Exactly! The simpler the better.

Oh ya...I could get into that. Especially if there is fishing involved.
Never much got into fishing but the relaxing nature of it appeals to me. I like the water too... and the fish!

Thanks kindly @ajay8198
Damn, that sounds so relaxing! As someone who lives in a city with millions of people, I'm very jealous about the space you have for yourself!
Hi @harshallele thanks for the comment. We've done the cramped unit thing for years. We are on a little over 10 acres here and love the space and privacy. It's been a long time coming for us. Hope you enjoy some relaxing time nonetheless.
well i dont know what to do im just getting bored asf
Haha been there before. What is it you like doing @hanutahir?

Thanks @asadhameedkhan glad you liked it.
Those bottles look magnificent!
Thought you might like them @buzzbeergeek!
Yes, life is enough. It is the vested interests grasping after 'shiny things' that have us running around trying to be better 'consumers'. Life is enough - Guinness certainly helps though 🍺
Spot on @richardingate. As John Lennon said, life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans. I have always found truth in that. Thanks very much for your comment and contribution.
This whole 'idea' (fact?) is why I am moving away from more effortful approaches towards a way of understanding life called the Three principles - I will be writing about that soon. If 'life is what happens to our plans' , as you so rightly say, it makes sense to still make plans but to hold them more lightly!
Really looking forward to reading your thoughts on this concept @richardingate. An effortful existance is a good way to describe the high overhead way of life we all seem to strive towards and suffer from simultaneously.
Love the weekend posts, mate! Also looking forward to hear how planting those avocado seeds works out!
Me too. It'll be many years before they have a chance of fruiting and I hear that inly grafted plants have a good chance but we shall see! Thanks!
Cool, just a reminder, keep those seeds away from children and pets, i hear the seeds itself and the casing around them is mighty poisonous.
Ah nice tip mate. We don't have any kids and only have the cat and horses, neither of which have shown any interest. I'll keep an eye on that tho for sure.
Great post and so inspiring 😊 seem like you had a great time and cuality Time with your friends and family are the jewel.
We spend to much time on meaningless things that we miss out on life, the little things that is more important. All the beautiful things life has to offer, lean back and allow us to relax and enjoy the blessings in our lives.
I use to be busy all the time, worked overtime and barely took time for myself or my family and friends. But I was lucky to wake up and I said NO MORE time for a change.
So now I have found a great balance between work, family and friends and my interests.
How lucky am I 😉😆 so incredibly blessed.
Was the drinks good? I only drink cider have only tried shots once 😝 lol
Wonderful wife you have and fun to hear about your great weekend. Thank you for sharing
Have a wonderful day
