I know what you mean. My balance is terrible at the moment. While I like my job for the most part it's shift work with no set roster. I have two weeks on shifts on the wall working anywhere from 5am to midnight.
And thats what I hate. It makes it impossible to set up anything. To join an activity or have a night out with your friends. Most people work 9 to 5 on a set schedule so everything is planned around these. I can make it to somethings but find it impossible to join anything longer term.

Believe me most people are in same situation. Everyone wants to prove that they are doing the job, doing work day and night so boss sees the hard work they re doing and they get promoted or get raised accordingly. When I started my carrier I was in same situation - I want to prove my self, working day and night, and it was matter of time that I realize that I am doing something wrong as I got so many health issue. Then I gave important to my health to recover, then I balanced everything work+family+health (took some time to balance all things as I was doing all wrong for 2 years).
Hope you will figure out how to balance all.
