So it seems that Elon Musk (CEO of SpaceX) has a scheduled date of the year 2024 for our first manned spaceship travel to mars. To me this is incredible, but is it necessary that we move to a different planet? I do believe we need to diversify a bit as a species, because if all of our eggs are in one basket (the earth) when somethings goes wrong we will all be totally wiped out and poof no more human race.
Personally I don't know that mars is a perfect match for us humans (no oxygen, weaker gravity, no natural resources, no water, etc..) But I am interested in your opinions!
If you are reading this comment below your thoughts on colonizing mars or just landing there in general, would love to hear some opinions.

Earth will die and we are the direct catalysts. We need to find more habitable planets. Obviously the conditions would
Make it impossible, but that's why machine and innovation reigns supreme. We can create our own atmospheres inside buildings. Dubai is a really hot region but through innovation, it boasts many habitable locations. Sound waves also been proven to alter the weather of locations, why not implement that ? This is assuming that we're the first visitors there. Everyone's based on a numbers game. Considering how vast the universe is and how many habitable planets there are, it's safe to assume we won't be the first to do this.
I definitely believe we aren't alone in the universe, it's almost impossible for us to be alone in this extremely massive universe. It would be pretty awesome though if we spend some time on mars (a planet untouched by humans) and start discovering signs of previous or current life, that we know for sure did not come from humans or any other earthly species.
And yeah I believe we can evolve mars to fit our needs by using science and technology to create the perfect conditions, we have to actually, earth is a ticking time bomb.
If we were living in an ancestor simulation the fermi paradox is answered.
If it doesn't break the laws of physics (newtonian or quantum)we can do it.
Funding a colony is the most difficult challenge. The required technology can be mastered without too much difficulty. Mars One is trying the "bootstrapping" method by selling promotional items, but appears stuck at about $1 Million in funds raised. The Mars Society has done a lot of great work through annual conventions and in two research facilities. See last year's convention talk on funding a colony:
The speaker recommends raising bonds. The Martian book and movie was very well done, but doesn't appear to have triggered many people to open their wallets to increase funding towards Mars projects.Funding a colony is the most difficult challenge.
