Hi Steemians
Rape victims face eight month delays for counselling appointment at crisis Centres at the number of people on waiting lists increased by a quarter in a just over a month, a leading support group has said.
The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) said the rise was caused by high-profile court cases and the increase in people coming forward in the wake of accusations against prominent International figures. The recent debate on victim-blaming in Ireland was also a factor.
The Department of children and youth affairs is due to discuss funding with the centre. DRCC said that at the end of the month there were 140 people on its waiting list. It said this has now increased to 175.
