5 timeless life changing quotes from Epictetus

in #life7 years ago

I have always been fascinated with Greek mythology but most of all the Greek philosophers such as the likes of Socrates,Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras just to name a few but one philosopher has always been of particular interest to me because of how he viewed life his name was Epictetus.

The life of Epictetus is classical grass to grace story. Born a slave to quite a wealthy master his standard of living was quite harsh even by ancient standards but fortunately for him his master permitted him to study philosophy where he rose to prominence and was granted his freedom in 63AD where he went ahead to teach philosophy.

Here are 5 of my favorite quotes from a man who was an embodiment of philosophy

"Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants"

"Any person capable of angering you becomes your master; he can anger you only when you permit yourself to be disturbed by him"

"It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows"

"The greater the difficulty, the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempest"

"Seek not the good in external things; seek it in yourself"

Epictetus was definitely one man whose words and advice can stand the test of time never getting old.

I definitely needed this in a time of despair that i am currently in. I have been letting anger and life in general run over me but i am the master of y own capabilities and i can master anything that i so put my mind to. So, with that being said i believe Epictetus was correct in his quotes and even now starting off 2018 going through trials and tribulations i have the energy and mind state to push through them.

Trust me Epictetus has been there with your zeal your definitely on the right path... All the best
