Not sure if this will get posted/deleted, as it appears they have locked my account in some way (was trying to make a post that I will be speaking later in the week in San Diego, but the 'Post' button is disabled).

No one can stop your ability to post. They can only remove rewards and potentially reputation. What you are seeing is likely a node issue or a transient network issue. I know api.hive.blog has had a few issues recently and may be related to your experience as it is the default node.
I personally use peaks.com as it is far more feature rich than hive.blog.
As for Hive Watchers, they will frequently try to verify people are who they say they are as plagiarism is very common where money is given so freely. The reward pool is a shared resource and what one person does affects every other stake holder in some way. It is not an easy job as it is so easy to prevent to be someone else to gain rewards and little can be done to truly know for sure.

Well, thanks for jumping in. It is frustrating. I get we need to remove accounts that plagiarize or aren't real. But it only takes a second to look at my account, what I post, and the interactions I have with fellow users. I am not some bot or part of a social media farm creating fake content! I use my real name! Seriously.
Anyways, I will try to post again before I head down to San Diego. I don't use PeakD or any other of the interfaces as I don't like the fact I have to use HiveSigner or whatever that requires my private key. I don't give that to any 3rd party, just out of principle!
I will keep boring people with my cybersecurity posts unless these @HiveWatchers continue harassing me for no reason.
Peaks does not require you to give them your key. It is only stored in local storage and transactions are signed locally.
This is true with peaklock (which I only use for mobile) and keychain which is the most popular Hive solution for authentication. Your key is never sent over the wire in either scenario.
Hive also has multiple keys that compartmentalizes authorization, in most cases you only ever need your posting key which has no access to funds or critical operations.
I need to look at it again then. As I remember there was a webform that required one of the sensitive private keys. I recall not wanting to put my key into their website.
They all can take a key if you choose to use that method. They all handle it locally only and broadcast signed transactions.
They all can use hive keychain (extension) that holds keys locally and also broadcasts signed transactions. This is what 99% of people use I believe.
Peakd also has peaklock a local wallet for keys simpler to keychain but without the extension.
If I have to input it into someone's website, it is not truly local.
Browser extensions are pure evil and a hackers wet-dream, so I don't use those for authentication.
So, I think I am out of luck. Which is fine, as long as HIVE is working properly.
If they ever allow just a posting key, then I would reconsider. Otherwise, I don't like the risk calculus.
