Hi Steemians,
Great you are here! This is already #4 of our Life Management Seminar based on the sermon on the mount. Today, let's look into Matthew 5:6.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6-5:6)
Be hungry, be thirsty. For righteousness. You will be filled. That's a great promise.
What does righteousness actually mean? It means "the quality of being morally right or justifiable." Thus, it's about living after the right moral values.
What we also can learn from this is the general truth that what you want, determines who you are. Don't get me wrong on this as it doesn't mean that you will always get what you want and what you desire, but you'll always chase after what you want and desire - and this will ultimately form your character.
Here is a very simple example: if you are hungry for the wrong food, then you'll not be a healthy person. If you love fast food, you will not live a life in shape. Spiritually, that's the same thing.
So you should ask yourself this one important question: What is the thing I desire most?
As said, this is important as it defines what and who you are and will be, so you better be honest about it.
Do you most desire your success? Some of your sins? Money? Health? Family? Your satisfaction? Sex? Maybe you will not like the answer, but that's OK. It is OK because if you don't like it, you actually have the power to change it. Why? Because nobody else can change it for you - it is only you.
I think what we all need in life is a change of spiritual appetite. Would you agree? Luckily it's very easy to start this by simply asking God for support. Ask him to change your thirst by saying:
Let the thing, that is most important to me, be you.
This means, you should be hungry for living in a righteousness relationship with God which also has direct implications in your life as it comes with doing the right things he made you to live for. Also remember, normally you don't have a guarantee that you will get what you want, except for this one case based on God's promise, "you will be filled". That's a very big promise.
Yes, this might be tough for you, I totally understand. Maybe it is money and success that you look for the most in your life at the moment - that's not bad! Nobody is saying you should quit your job tomorrow and become a monk. Everybody knows that having a decent amount of money will make you feel more comfortable and safe. That's absolutely understandable. But that doesn't justify it to be the MOST important thing in your life. Why? Because even if you get the things in life that you want so badly, like money and status, you will still feel empty in the end. I'm sure you've heard of, or you know highly successful people who "made it". They got the job, the money, the house, body, and so on. But in the end they still weren't fulfilled, they were empty. They weren't happy. Why? Because in this moment they realized, that there has to be something deeper, and this something is the relationship with Jesus. You don't have to become rich first to learn this lesson.
So, make up your mind and let the most important thing you want in life be a phenomenal, deep relationship with God. That's the only way to a truly happy and fulfilled life.
Thanks so much!
