Goodwood – first day of working
Up at 05:30 – what the hell… I don’t do 05:30… except, I do, today.
McLaren 520S Velocity
2.9second 0-60
212 MPH
4Litre Twin-Turbo-Charged V8
Probably a little out of my price range (Steem donations accepted with gratitude)…
Caught the shuttle bus to the check-in (already kitted out with the ‘uniform’, a fetching grey lab coat adorned with the Goodwood logo – very smart). @s0u1 checked in whilst I made the coffee and tea.
We walked about half a mile to the Grandstand at the start line, past the queueing customers at the entrance, and we introduced ourselves to Robin, our supervisor.
Our duties are simple: check the day-passes of customers wanting to view the Hill Climb from the grandstand and politely direct them to the correct place if they didn’t have the appropriate pass (hardly any had a wrong pass for the area).
At 11:30 there was a spectacular air display by the Red Arrows.
Sorry… not a spectacular picture.
We’re volunteers, not staff and therefore, we get quite a bit of lee-way. We don’t have to do 12 hour shifts, finishing at 1pm. We get half a day to roam the festival if we want, visiting the different stands, or we can chill out under a tree (we did that).
Free coffee at the Porsche GB Club stand whilst we ate our packed lunch (provided for us because we’re working) then we wandered.
After work, chilling at the Jaguar stand
Caterham, Porsche, McLaren, Jaguar/Land Rover today. And we chatted with a few people. The best thing about this is everyone has a common interest and are happy to be there, so cheerful natures are abundant.
Porsche 918 Spyder
4.6 Litre V8 plus 2 electric motors - 887 total BHP
0-60 2.5 seconds
Top speed, 210
£800,00 when they came out, new - heaven knows how much they are now!
We watched a few Jaguars drifting on their specially made course (video later). Then we went up to the Porsche stand and saw the newest in their range –
The Porsche 911Turbo Exclusive, unveiled only yesterday.
2.9 0-60
205MPH
3.8Litre 6 Cylinder
607BHP
£190,780 (Again, Steem donations accepted gratefully and I’ll share pics if I get one) ;)
Tornado jets entertained the crowd from the skies above Goodwood.
We made our way back home early (about 4pm).
Right now, it’s 21:00(ish) and still light but I’m shattered and showered, almost ready for kip.
More tomorrow.
(Sorry, no bikes today but I'm keeping the same tags for this 'series')
nice cars over there..
You're not joking! :)
Great read! :) pictures looking awesome..
Thank you. Not too much info I'm afraid, in the middle of a field, internet is via the phone and therefore, limited :)
Great article and amazing pictures I really like the Porsche
I do too ;)
But I like the F-type Jag too! And the Ombre McLaren, and the GT40... ;)
Sounds like quite the day! Can't imagine being around so many expensive cars. I'd be nervous to breathe on it the wrong way lol.
We didn't even go round the Ferrari collection!
Millions of pounds worth in one car - and there were lots of them!
