पिछली तीनों पोस्ट से आगे बढ़ते हुए हम सुख पर इस उदाहरण को पूरा करते हुए समझने का प्रयत्न करते हैं ।

मैं कुछ नरम पड़ा । मैंने कहा – “भाई ऊंट ! और मनुष्यों की बात न कर । आज मनुष्य नहीं रहा, वह राक्षस बनता जा रहा है । किन्तु मैं तो वैसा मनुष्य नहीं हूँ । मेरी समझ में तो मैं तुमसे बहुत अच्छा हूँ ।”

ऊंट फिर हंस पड़ा । बोला – “अच्छा, जरा कहो तो कि तुम मुझसे किस प्रकार अच्छे हो ? तुम में क्या विशेषता है ?”

मैं विचार में पड़ गया ! सोचने लगा, सचमुच धन के सिवाय मेरे पास और क्या है जिसका मैं गर्व करूं ? फिर भी मैंने साहस करके कहा – “देख भाई ऊंट, मैं बहुत त्याग करता हूँ, सदा जीवन व्यतीत करता हूँ, खादी पहनता हूँ ।”

ऊंट ने कहा – “इसमें गर्व करने की क्या बात है ? मुझे देख मैं तो कुछ भी नहीं पहनता ।”

“मैं बहुत सादा भोजन करता हूँ । .... ।”

“बस ! मुझे देख, मैं तो केवल पत्तियां ही चबाकर रह जाता हूँ ।”

मैंने कहा – “मैंने गृहस्थाश्रम का भी त्याग कर दिया है ।”

ऊंट ने उत्तर दिया – “इसमें तूने क्या नौ की तेरह कर दी । कौन-सा तीर मार लिया । मुझमें न ईर्ष्या है, न द्वेष है और न ही क्रोध है । और झूठ तो मैंने जीवन में कभी बोला ही नहीं ।”

मैंने कहा – “मुझ में सेवावृति है ।”

ऊंट ने कटु सत्य कहा – “तुम्हारी सेवावृति का रूप तो हमें प्रतिदिन देखने को मिलता है । गाय के बछड़े का दूध स्वयं पी जाते हो और वह सूखी घास चबाता है । असंख्य बैलों, घोड़ों और ऊँटों पर असह्य बोझा लाद-लादकर तुम उनकी चमड़ी चाबुकों से छील देते हो, उनका दम निकाल देते हो, अपनी मोटरों के नीचे कुचल देते हो । और यहाँ पर मेरे सामने अपनी सेवावृति का ढोल बजाते हो । धिक्कार है तुम्हारी सेवावृति पर, धिक्कार है तुम्हारे अभिमान पर, हजार बार धिक्कार है तुम्हारे पाखण्ड पर ।”

“यदि तुम सेवा का अर्थ जानना चाहते हो तो मेरी ओर देखो – मैं कुछ नहीं पहनता, सूखे पत्ते चबाकर निर्वाह कर लेता हूँ, तुम्हारे हंटर और चाबुक सहन करता हुआ तुम्हारी सेवा करता रहता हूँ । इसे कहते है सेवाव्रत । तुम्हें पहनने के लिए सुंदर कीमती वस्त्र चाहिए, सेवा करने के लिए सेवक चाहिए, खाने के लिए स्वादिष्ट भोजन चाहिए, रहने के लिए महल चाहिए, चलने के लिए मोटर गाड़ी चाहिए, अरे अभिमानी मनुष्य ! तुझे क्या नहीं चाहिए ? तेरी अभिलाषा का क्या कहीं अन्त है ? धिक्कार है तुम पर और तुम्हारे मानव समाज पर । उस पर तुर्रा यह कि तुम स्वयं को हमसे श्रेष्ठ मानते हो ।”

ऊंट की बात मेरे ह्रदय में उतर गई । मुझे आत्म ग्लानि हुई । मेरी अन्तरात्मा पुकारने लगी, ‘अरे मुर्ख, तू ऊंट से भी गया-गुजरा है ।’

अत: इस दृष्टान्त को पढ़ने के बाद, एक बार विचार कीजिए कि आप कौन हैं ? आप क्या कर रहे हैं ? आपका लक्ष्य क्या हैं ? क्या आप अपने लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए सही मार्ग पर चल रहे हैं ? कही आप भ्रम में तो नहीं डूबे हैं ?

मुझे विश्वास है कि यदि आप इतना-सा विचार करेंगे तो आपको सच्चे सुख का सरोवर अपने नेत्रों के सामने लहराता दृष्टिगोचर होगा ।
