The Maker Movement and my local Makerspace!

in #life8 years ago

Hello steem friends! One thing that I am very passionate about is the "maker movement". The maker movement is really just the concept of individual people pooling knowledge and resources to support creativity in the local community. This concept is becoming increasingly popular and influential in many cities around the world, and has provided backbone for lots of great educational resources, and business opportunities, all hosted in community workspaces (makerspaces)! The members that teach, learn, and make in these spaces are all just hobbyists, tinkerers, tradesmen, business owners, hackers, gardeners, parents, kids... (you get the idea). Since you are a person, I highly recommend that you find the nearest makerspace or similar group of makers and dive in! I guarantee you have some unique creativity and skill to offer to your community. :)

Anyway, my local makerspace is called the Fort Collins Creator Hub. It's a fairly new, but rapidly developing community workshop and classroom that I think has some pretty large potential... Check out our website: http://www.fortcollinscreatorhub.org/

We also have a bunch of basic woodworking power tools... a couple of MIG welders... a mini lathe...
I could go on, but I really want to get back to centering and turning this chunk of brass!
