Took A Vacation To The Eastern Shore of Virginia

in #life7 years ago

This past week I went on a road trip with my husband and daughter to visit my husband's family on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. My husband's family lives in a very rural area where there is no phone reception and very bad internet reception. The internet reception was so bad I just put away my phone and laptop for four days. If you keep up with me steemit friends then that is why I've been absent from posting and commenting.

It's a 9 hour drive (12 hours when you have a young baby) so it was a long trip. We left Monday morning and arrived after midnight that night. My daughter got to see her grandmother, aunt, and uncle and got to spend the week in the home where her daddy grew up.

The drive is really pretty and takes us through the beautiful mountains of Virginia and Tennessee. This is one of my favorite parts of the trip. They have places like the one above where you can pull off of the interstate at scenic spots to just enjoy the view.

Stopped In Richmond, VA For My Husband's Favorite Pizza

We stopped in Richmond, VA to see my husbands sister who lives there. We visited for a few hours and let our daughter crawl around to tire her out before continuing the last 3 hours of driving. We picked up pizza at my husband's favorite pizza place before continuing on the journey.

So this journey can be fun or horrible depending on your feelings about bridges and tunnels. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge has a beautiful view of the ocean and I love crossing over it. The tunnel is also fun but when you realize that the tunnel is under water it can be a bit scary. If you have a fear of bridges or tunnels then this route might be terrifying.

The property where my husband spent his childhood is beautiful. They have a lot of land and water front property. It's very peaceful. My mother-in-law never locks her doors because it is so safe and rural. It's kind of like being in your own little world because its so quiet and peaceful.

My Husband Had This View Every Day of His Childhood

My husband grew up riding jet skies and swimming. He grew up in a place surrounded by fresh seafood and plenty of pretty views. His mom's house is a nice place to spend a week and has plenty of things to look at and do.

I've got plenty of stories and pictures to share. We arrived home not too long ago and I'm exhausted. I'm so happy to be done traveling and home. A 12 hour car ride is rough and my little one needed a lot of tending too on the journey. She's happy to be home too. She hated being in a car seat so long and I hated hearing her cry and fuss. Now, I'm off to rest and enjoy being home sweet home.

Great post @marxrab!!! My favorite is the second to last image of the lake.

Isn't that a cool bridge? I've been on it a few times, but I wouldn't want to be on it at high tide in a storm, that's for sure. There's no exit ramps, unless you consider veering off into the Chesapeake an exit ramp.

All of the bedrooms face the lake and have sliding glass doors so you wake up looking at the view. My husband was lucky to grow up with a view of that lake. That bridge is cool. My brother has a fear of bridges and hyperventilates so I'd never be able to take him on it lol. I have been over it in extreme fog and rain. Those times have made me a bit nervous.

I'm heading to a rural area tomorrow. No phone and no internet as well. Just love it!

It is nice you got to visit your husbands family. I bet your little girl got a lot of attention from them.

Oh she did. She's the only grandchild so she had plenty of attention.
