That is soooo sad. I am sorry to hear that. I heard about the stories like yours. Always break my heart. The band queen says "too much love will kill you". Let me tell you remoteness and loneliness also kills. So no matter how do we feel we need to find the time for our family, friends and colleagues. Sometimes simple conversations can help or not.
