My Controversial Stance on Suicide

Should we legalize suicide and also assisted suicide? My answer to that question is yes.

As a human being, your life only belongs to you and nothing more but as of right now in most societies, your life belongs to a higher authority. You do not have a choice to end your life with dignity and on your own terms. People often like to push the notion that suicide is selfish but when you really think about it, who is more selfish, the person wanting to end what is daily agony for them whether its physical or mental or the person forcing them to live with this agony 24/7 for their comfort? A person should never be forced to live for those around them. No one asks to be born and no one should live a life that has little or no quality if they want to.

I do think there should be a few limitations on when someone can commit suicide. There are plenty of people with mental illness that can be maintained and controlled with medication. The medication could greatly improve their quality of life. Once those options have been exhausted, or if the person simply just doesn’t want to try, they should absolutely have the right to end their own lives. This includes the terminally ill, especially when they get to a point where their quality of life is so minimal. These people are simply waiting to die, why do we not help them? We have animals that are more dignified when it comes to death than we are as people and I find that to be pretty grotesque.
