Robert Powers recently began writing fiction on the BEAM platform - an application that rewards its writers with BEAMTOKENS based on the number of upvotes their posts receive. There is very little fiction on BEAM. Like many other websites, BEAM rewards highly opinionated content pertaining to current events, technology, and politics. Furthermore, prior to BEAM, Powers had not written a single word of fiction apart from grade school assignments. Nevertheless, his stories have earned him a small audience, giving Powers enough BEAMTOKENS to make the writing worthwhile, albeit not enough to appear on the "trending" or "hot" sections of the website, to say nothing of actually earning enough to pay the bills.
As January came to a close, Powers began to write the story that would earn him his highest number of BEAMTOKENS to date. "Disposable Bubble" garnered 23 upvotes, a still-modest haul but enough to get him five shiny BEAMTOKENS.
