Why is change necessary?
Tonight, I was reminded of the eagle. The analogy of the eagle rebirth is truly incredible when we ask ourselves why change is needed...
And more importantly, WHAT is needed in order to make that happen.
At 40 years of age, the eagle has a decision to make.
It's once sharp beak is worn and bent. It's once razor sharp talons are dull and ineffective.
It's once silky smooth feathers become heavy and matted.
What seems like a dire situation forces the eagle to make a choice:
Change or die.
You see, the eagle, in order to be reborn, must fly high to safety and begin a gruelling process.
First, it must smash it's beak against a rock until it comes out.
Once the new beak grows in, it's stronger and sharper than ever. It then uses the beak to tear out it's old talons.
Once the sharp and new talons come in, it goes to work in it's feathers, pulling out the matted ones that weigh it down.
It is then...and only then...that it can live for another 30 years.
The eagle rebirth is a perfect metaphor for why change is necessary.
Why?
It's needed in order to survive and live.
This never means that the eagle will never face a storm.
Or that I'll never encounter opposition that tests its will to live.
It is merely the desire to live that it does the work that's needed to continue on.
This...is our rebirth too. Anyone can have it. Anyone can live it.
Is it time for you yet?
