Hong Kong - Hundreds of people were evacuated after a World War II bomb was found at a construction site in Hong Kong. This is the third such finding in the region so far this year.

As reported by Channel News Asia, Friday (11/05/2018), police closed the streets and evacuated about 1,200 people from shops, restaurants and offices in the bustling business district, Wanchai. This was done as bomb disposal experts began the process of taming the US-made 450 kilogram bomb.

The bomb that lay for more than 70 years was found on Thursday (10/5) yesterday. The bomb is a bomb with a model similar to two World War II bombs that were found earlier in January at the site. At that location there was ongoing work to build a new train station.

"Two previous bombs are horizontally placed and this one is vertical, two thirds of the bombs are actually buried underground, we need to dig at least part of the object before we start our operation," said a bomb disposal expert, Ngo-yau.

"Because the bomb is unstable, we need to do it very carefully," Lai said.

Earlier, in 2016, a climber found six World War grenades near the Happy Valley area. In 2014, Hong Kong police defused a World War II bomb weighing almost a ton, the biggest bomb ever found in Hong Kong.
