I was reading about an ancient Japanese philosophy for change. If you want to make a change in your life or lots of little changes in your life, it can be daunting. It is hard to stamp out a lifetime worth of conditioning.
I wish someone had told me years ago how important building habits was going to be. You always hear people say," Oooh that is a bad habit to get into." What they neglect to tell you is that your whole life is a grand collection of habits. Good habits and bad habits.
Everything is a habit! Your diet; habit, your morning routine; habit, your hobbies; habit, literally everything you do, you do because that is what you are used to doing; habit. If you have a talent, it is likely the result of many, many hours of doing it over and over and over again. Sometimes you can carry habits through your entire life, even habits you wish you did not have.
Solution:
Unhabit! LOL.....Seriously. If you do something every day for a long time it becomes your habit.
The Japanese, being a very smart breed of people, have some very good advice. The theory is if you want to introduce a new habit, like exercise, but you hate it and you are out of shape, don't make great promises, don't set lofty goals, just do it for one minute. Yes, that's right, one minute per day. It doesn't matter how hard it is, nor how much you hate it.
One minute a day! You can do anything for one single minute a day! If you do that one thing for one minute every day, you will see results. Yes, it might take a little while, but that one minute will often end up being two minutes, maybe ever three or four.
Eventually, your one minute a day becomes your habit. After you start to see results the motivation to do more starts to kick in. You start to receive the benefits and you just want more of it.
I am going to stop waiting for motivation to come! I will do it for one minute a day until it becomes motivating. Good luck to us all in our constant pursuit of perfecting oneself!
@lukigrl good post.. I liked that one minute idea
