How To Choose Your Purpose in Life (Community Discussion)

in #life7 years ago

"Finding your purpose in life" - This is question every young person gets asked. We are urged to lead a purpose driven life in order to be happy, content when we look back on our lives as we grow old. 'Everything clicks into place' is a phrase that is often attributed by the 'Enlightened' when we find our purpose. This line of thinking does nothing but increase stress and anxiety among the younger generation and life could seem partially lacking until we find it. This quest creates an illusion that there is a purpose yet to found, 'written' for everyone by some supernatural deity. This more than often only leads people to lead miserable lives continuously searching for 'The One'.

The whole quest of finding purpose as the Buddhists say is to 'Trying to get underneath the ground' - meaning we humans are programmed biologically to always control the environment in order to give ourselves a better chance of survival. The purpose keeps our focus in line and prevents us from drifting away into madness. This is the reason why we try to associate meanings with everything. The lack of meaning is off putting and makes us feel like we are not in control of the situation. We have to shift from this line of thinking and escape from the evolutionary bound and live our lives purely dictated by our own passions and interests without conforming to any set ritual.

In Aid of doing so, I have compiled a list of questions which I feel might help you realize what is important to you:

1) What is that one thing you turn towards when you are in trouble? And Why is it so important to you?
2) What is True about you today that would make a 7 yr old you cry?
3) If there is one important thing that you would want to change in the world today. What will that be and How would you do it?
4) If you are going to die exactly one year from today, how would spend your remaining days?
5) How can you better embarrass yourself?

When in trouble I turn to myself, deep into myself to analyze the situation and find a solution. If all else fails, I turn to my mother. And I know I'll be doing this even when I'm older, it's the Italian way haha

Great post!

I heard the mothers are the head of the house in Italy ;)

  1. This one is really hard. Whenever I get in trouble I usually face it head on, and well deal with it.
  2. Today was pretty chill.
  3. One thing to chance... other than the world peace and curing diseases and starvation, I would like to solve the outgoing racism issue.
  4. If I was going to die one year from today I would quit my job take the money I have and travel and try to see the most of the world. I would live care free.
  5. I embarrass myself all the time. I got this one down pat.

haha thanks for the comment.
In the second question, It was geared towards identifying a change you've observed in yourself which a past you would not have liked.
