RE: Mind Control: Three warnings from an ex-magician

Ahah, I see what you did, putting in a name here to make the point heavier even if the name has nothing to to with your story

Edward Bernays, father of modern marketing and nephew of Sigmund Freud

Sort:

Here's the quote again, more fully, Ctrl-C'd from Wikiquote, in turn from a book called Propaganda:

In almost every act of our lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons [...] who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world.

I think this has everything to do with @skypal's story, showing both how this is possible, and how the audience willingly become dupes, in return for entertainment.

lol you totally missed the point. Like a magicians toy ;)

It is that Sigmund Freud has NOTHING to do with his story. Freud may be a psychologist, but if he is that or not (or the relatives status) has no connection at all to this story.

If a reader doesn't know who Bernays is, they most likely will know who Freud is, so it serves a purpose.
