Campaign and Election season is back! Here’s some steps to prepare for your State’s upcoming primary and general elections!
• MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE!!!
The first step is probably the most important! You MUST register in your state to be able to vote! You will need to register before the deadline in your state. Each state has different requirements for registration and you can easily fill out the form online or in person. Just Google “register to vote in ____ (your home) state”, find your state governments page, and fill out the registration form.
• RESEARCH THE CANDIDATES
Next you will need to research the candidates running in your state, country, and district. This is most important during primaries where there are multiple candidates from your party running against each other. Research which candidates most support your views on the issues. Remember: no candidate is perfect! You will never align with a candidate 100%.
• FIND YOUR NEAREST POLLING PLACE
Make sure to check what time your polling place opens and where it is located.
• BRING SUITABLE IDENTIFICATION
This is also very important, especially if you live in a state with strict voting ID laws. Remember: You can vote without a Drivers License! Depending on the state, a government ID, passport, citizenship paper, birth certificate, or college ID may work just fine. Be sure to Google what form of ID your State accepts for voting.
• VOTE!!
You made it! This is the easiest step! Just vote for the candidates that align with you on your most important issues.
• WATCH THE RESULTS COME IN!!
You’ve done all you can! May the best candidate win!!
