We all live in the environment; it is our natural world. Although, an environment may connote various conditions affecting something or someone, our focus here will be the environment in which we live, work and grow generally. It consists of plants, animals, buildings and structures. These buildings and structures are outcomes of the activities we engage in.
The daily activities we carry out in our homes and places of work are vital to our survival. However, their effects do more harm than good to the environment. As we go about our construction activities, drive our automobiles, cultivate land and manufacture our goods, we, sometimes, don't care about the environment. We often endanger the environment as we depend extremely on its natural resources without caution.
Animals get eliminated as we hunt and experiment, some species of plants go extinct and water bodies are land-filled in the course of development. Eventually, problems like pollution, climate change, loss of biodiversity and global warming spring up. In return, our health and well-being get threatened. The interesting fact here is that this cycle goes on; environmental issues will always trend as long as we exist.
However, more important is the fact that we can only seek to manage the effects of our activities on the environment---we may not be able to ultimately resolve them. How about planting trees each time we fell a tree? Complying with building and industrial regulations to prevent flooding, water pollution and fire outbreaks? Incorporating greenery into the design of our buildings to control air pollution, among other management measures?
These and many more will help strike the balance; we would be able to carry out our activities and also, preserve the environment. At least, an environment which can meet the needs of coming generations will be ensured.
