It’s past noon, and I just started an intermediate fast with a tablespoon of almond butter, a tablespoon of MCT Oil [refined coconut oil], a scoop of amino acids, a scoop of spirulina, and five drops of stevia glycerite. If you have questions about why I use those ingredients, don’t shy away from asking in the comments below. I’m happy to help.
Anyway, this post is about the water. Which’s essential for maintaining healthy minerals while fasting. When in ketosis, the body needs minerals, including salt, to remain balanced and healthy. When I used to consume a lot of protein and carbs, I didn’t need much salt because the carbohydrates held on to most of it as water weight and my body had an abundant levels of it, stored under the skin. Now that I’m keto, I need to consume salt daily to keep a good hydration balance. Most health professionals recommend a bouillon cube a day as sufficient, but I just salt my water until it tastes umami [not salty, just pleasant]
When I don’t have access to salt, I purchase water with electrolytes in it. Like the one pictured above.
Another reason I chose that water is for being alkaline. My diet doesn’t have enough alkaliIng vegetables in it as of now, not proud of it, it’s just what my habits are currently. So a way to supplement that is having the juice of one lemon a day and/ or having some alkaline water.
The best thing to do is to test my pee with pH strips to see if my body’s acidity is in a healthy range or not, but after a while of doing that I learned the signals my body sends me when my PH levels are out of balance.
I’m still not clear whether drinking alkaline water helps or not, as I have to yet see an official research, or do my own tests, to see if it makes a difference. But I do know that eating greens and drinking the juice of one lemon a day help.
most of these drinks come fortifies with potassium and magnesium, two other essential minerals that I need.

Why are you fasting and what are their uses, efficacy and not eating much, thank you.
Fasting has many proven health benefits that include weight loss, increased insulin sensitivity, and it saves time. It also was shown to increase human growth hormone production in the body. That’s because insulin is an antagonist to human growth hormone, so when you go to bed fasted, your body releases human growth hormone to help repair and grow. If you go to bed after eating, the insulin production will suppress the human growth hormone. So you just have to time those according to your daily rythum.

Fasting while in Ketosis enhances your body’s ability to use fat as energy while preserving muscle tissue and it’s the kind of fasting I practice.

Make sure you are drinking water with salt and other essential minerals while you fast.

I also do not recommend restricting your calories or eating less than you need. So when you break your fast, eat as much as your body desires and insure you provide it with its nutritional needs.
Good question, I hope it helps.
Phew… good thing I start my day with lemon and water. It’s better than coffee now… that’s taken me years upon years to say. I didn’t know you could test your ph with pee strips… interesting.
if you want to get into a keto fast, add a spoon of mct oil to it. (C8 oil being the best form of mct)
There’s an obvious improvement in my health when I do one lemonade a day. 😋.
and yeah you’d be surprised how acidic our bodies in urban cities are. No wonder most are a jenky funk
I really do start my day with lemon water… it’s my morning coffee :) One of these days I’ll have to pick up some of those strips and test just how acidic I am.
