A fatty acid found in fish oil called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) may yield a new approach in the treatment of epilepsy. In this study, investigators found that mice given a diet supplemented with extra DHA had fewer seizures than other mice when researchers induced seizures with a chemical called pentylenetetrazole. Further studies may find DHA supplementation to be a safe and effective way to prevent seizures among individuals with epilepsy
