A day spent helping my daughter make her own jewellery. Very impressed with her 1st attempt.

My plans for today were to help my daughter Nichola with her latest hobby, she has always loved drawing or making things but school put her off as the teacher wanted her do things her way and not let her use her own imagination. She is having a go at making jewellery, She loves to make statement pieces, ones that stand out so this should be a lot of fun for us both.

We went to Hobbycraft last week to choose a few things for her to get started. This will help her relax after work and hopefully give her something to do in her spare time, you never know she maybe the next Cartier, well you never know.

We sat upstairs in her bedroom working on her 1st pieces. She didn't spend to much on these as they are for practise, as she gets better she will buy better made products. I think she will have to make a list of what she will need as she progress's. She is also documenting everything she makes, how she made it and how it looked then thinking about ways to improve them.

Her 1st project is a pair of Earrings, she has enrolled her sister into wearing her jewellery to sample them and make notes, how long the glue lasts, how they feel etc. Jessica loves statement pieces, she will be the perfect person to model Nichola's jewellery.

She started making templates with cardboard to fit her pendants. Cutting out the material she would need.

The more she did the more the ideas started to flow with her wanting to finish her first pieces. She added glitter and a small pendant charm that made the piece stand out.

It was nice to spend time with her and to see how much she enjoyed what she was doing. Now she has ideas on what she wants to do for her next piece, how it should look and how to make it look even better. She will need quite a few new tools, a magnifying light, chains etc. i think this project has inspired her and given her the motivation to carry on and keep trying.

We are both going to have another go tomorrow, we may have to do a little shopping for future projects, I can see this is going to cost a little to set up but hopefully its something she sticks with and could make some extra money from. Its worth a try.

Thank you @son-of-satire
