On my journey through life I adventure out at times just to get away for awhile.
On this day I wished that I would have just stayed home.
When we die and choose to be buried and placed in the ground,
We entrust that we will be forever taken care of or at least the small piece of ground and what ever marker is laid on top.
This is the place that I have been many times. As a child growing up we would visit from time to time. It was a peaceful place, where you could set and listen to the sounds of the squirrel and birds from the forest that surrounds the place.
Why have they been forgotten ?
As you can see It is over grown with weeds.
This one is sets at the woods edge.
There is one marker that sets facing the wrong way and sets alone. I often ask my self "why".
Markers date back to 1800's

Old Hickory Grove Cemetery in Green Cove Springs Florida
I visit there from Time to time. Yesterday I stopped in and made a video of the place. So sad. No one cares. Why ?
This was a beautiful place many years ago. A place where I found peace and now all I hear is screams from the ones at rest there asking WHY ? The crypt in the far back against the woods is busted open. There is no one caring for this place. The big tree up front is now dead and needs taken down. Did you go in the woods ? There is a grave out there. Sad very sad. These are the people of our past. This is the one you were trying to read. Richard Floyd DRYSDALE 23 Oct. 1851 1 Mar. 1868
Saved a comrade and was himself drowned, his noble virtues are engraved
on our hearts.
There is a Sheriff Chas. WILSON 1873 -1906. I just do not understand why no one takes care of the old cemetery's .
So I did a bit of research and I came up with the name list. I included a link to where I found the information.

This cemetery has been surveyed before and written up in a book titled
"They Are Here" , I don't remember the author, but she won't give
permission to use any part of the book. Some of the stones listed in her
book are unreadable now, so I mention this so you may compare, should you

In Memoriam
This tablet is erected to perpetuate the memory of Col. Richard Ferdinand
FLOYD, who was born in Camden County, GA on the 7th day of July, 1810,
and died at his residence at Green Cove Springs, East FL. on the 27th of
May, 1870. An affectionate son, a devoted husband and father and a
sincere friend. A true friend of the South, whose demise was hastened by
exposure in Camp. His death was a happy one, being that of a true
Christian.

Eight months ago I did a post titled "Forgotten souls". It was a very similar experience. For me, the cemetery can be a peaceful but melancholy experience. I find it fascinating to read about the lives and deaths of those I meet there. But it is sad to see so many dilapidated, neglected, and forgotten plots.
