Today is known as a day that symbolises diverse heritage .

150 years ago Indians were brought to south Africa creating a community that has become the largest Non-immigrant Indian population in the world outside of Indian.

Many years ago my for fathers were brought to south Africa from India on ships to work as slaves on sugar cane fields.
The Indian people was discriminated ,they were forced to carry passes as early as year 1888.When Mohandas Ghandi arrived in kwa-Zulu natal as an adviser to a Durban law firm in year 1893, he had experienced racial slights , so he prolonged his stay and ended leaving the country some 21years later in year 1914 .

Two decades later Ghandi formed a political party , the Natal Indian congress ( N.I.C) which was then reformulated into the African National Congress (ANC).

Along with South Africa's black and Colourd community's , South African Indians were heavily discriminated against during apartheid, and contributed greatly to the freedom Struggle.

Over the years Indian culture has also infused south Africa with great tradition , extraordinary culture and most importantly the greatest Indian cuisine.
