This is a picture of me and my parents taken last week at a restaurant in Channel Islands Harbor, California. They were visiting from the UK along with my Brother and his fiance who both live in Indonesia.
The reason behind this photo was that the company I work for are running a competition to find the best piece of advice that your parents have given you. This led to much soul searching and brainstorming. The struggle was trying to remember the advice I had been given. There really weren't the golden nuggets that you might expect, like follow your dreams, work hard and you will be rewarded or follow your passion.
The two pieces of advice I could remember my Dad giving me were: don't ride a motorcycle (his friend had recently got into a bad accident on one) and don't marry before you are 28. I'm now much older than 28 and I'm still not married.
The best we came up with, or at least the one that gave us the biggest laugh, was my Mum saying, "Don't touch the plate, it is hot!". Something she still says when serving up Sunday dinner.
Thinking about it now though, my Dad did tell me to get into Computer Science when I was struggling to find a degree to pursue. That has definitely paid off. Thanks Dad!!
What has been the best advice you were given by your parents? Let everybody know below.
