Steemit, Anxiety, Depression, Stress and Pregnancy

in #life7 years ago

Steemit members are equal to the task. There is no topic you will not find on steemit. I believe this is what makes steemit unique. This of course is my personal view but you may wish to check it out yourself.

Steemit is where reasonable issues such as health, challenges, Photography, arts, bitcoins, cryptocurrency, issues about your country, matters that affects you as an individual and as a group, just name it, they are all discussed in steemit. See steemit tags.

In this post we shall be looking at Anxiety, Stress and Depression as they affect pregnancy and child bearing.

One journal in its report wrote that “Researchers are not sure if mental health can affect fertility, although it is clear that infertility can affect mental health. It's possible, though, high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress can affect the hormones that regulate ovulation. This could make it difficult for a woman to become pregnant.”

Don’t go away, read what Dr. Smith, Berga and others said about anxiety, depression, stress, fertility and pregnancy below:

"There are well documented, but often overlooked, consequences of untreated depression and anxiety during pregnancy for the fetus and the mother," Dr. Smith says. Risks to developing babies whose mothers have untreated depression or anxiety during pregnancy include: Low birth-weight. Premature birth (before 37 weeks). Did you hear that?

Sandra Berga added, “Many other stressed-out women may have irregular periods or may go for months without menstruating. But even if a woman could set her calendar by her periods, stress might still keep her from conceiving”. Cortisol which in Biochemistry is same as hydrocortisone (sense 1) and other hormones can prevent implantation of fertilized eggs.

Women looking for children of their own should please take note that children comfortably stay or grow to the delivery period in a womb of a woman with less stress or in a mentally balanced condition. Little wonder why the triplets in my immediate past post (Wow! God is Awesome and Needs to be Feared….) were delivered prematurely and had to remain in an intensive care unit for some time before they were released to their foster parents.

AVOID THIS CONDITION, ALL THE TIME, ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOU:

#HOW CAN WE LINK THIS SITUATION WITH ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND STRESS?#

It should be noted that before the triplets' “surrogate mother” was taken to the hospital for ultrasound, nobody knew she was pregnant with triplets; it was when they got to the hospital that they all discovered she was carrying triplets. At this point and beyond, the anxiety and stress might have increased, resulting in a premature birth of the triplets. What the surrogate mother suffered from was “the fear of childbirth - known as tokophobia – and this is also classified as a kind of anxiety.

#HOW CAN WE ALSO LINK ANXIETY AND STRESS TO SARAH, THE WIFE OF ANDY JUSTICE (THE TULSA, OKLAHOMA COUPLE)?#

We should also recall that the couple, Sarah and Andy Justice, the Oklahoma couple settled for adoption only after several failed trials of having their own children. It is possible that after the announcement of the arrival of their triplets, Sarah must have had a relaxed mind, because their prayers had then been answered. And at this point too, there is less stress from visits to Gynaecologists, time and costs have been saved and they joy of the arrival of their babies (the triplets) must have given her peace of mind and relaxed nerves that she was able to conceive and delivered her own twins. It did not end there; she also conceived a second time and delivered her third biological child, bringing the total number of children for Mr. and Mrs. Justice to six (6) within nine (9) months. How wonderful and exciting this experience could be.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the following should be noted:

  • It is a known fact that depression, anxiety, and stress can affect the hormones that regulate ovulation and this can make it difficult for a woman to become pregnant.
  • Untreated depression or anxiety during pregnancy pose some risks for fetus and expectant mother which may lead to
    Low birth-weight and premature birth.
  • Stress in sports men and women may lead to low sperm count in men and irregular periods or even, menstrual seizure in women, which may prevent implantation of fertilized eggs.
  • It should be noted that a stress, depression free-mind begets healthy children, put this into practice today and you will have the number of healthy children you need, just like Sarah and Andy Justice.
  • Seek for help from specialists when the need arises.

Where does this concern steemit and its members?

Some of our members are having these problems without knowing it. Some of are sports men and women, some of us are very busy Chief Executives, employers and self employed, etc, who go through daily stress without knowing its implications or they know but do not know how to cope with it. You reading this is just not enough, please,
RESTEEM for other members of steemit who are going through the stress and anxiety of having their own children to benefit.

I do not know them, you may not know them but when they read posts like this and benefit, Steemit is bound to get to its permanent site, which I believe, the sky will not be the limit but a stepping stone and the beginning of good things to come for us all.

My personal experience on the above topic will be shared in my next post. Watch out for it.

Stress is definitely not a good thing. It can lead to many things and the ultimate being death

@zoneboy, you are right there. Thanks for contributing but wait until you read my personal experience in he next post on stress. Oh my God! It is true the saying that my people perish for lack of knowledge. Many are where they are because they thought it is okay. It is just like in the case of drugs in the treatment of ailment, one may work against the other and could cause another sickness. Stress should be minimized to the barest minimum.

Keep posting...

Thanks for looking in. I have followed all the same, that's just the spirit.
