My mom had a heart attack recently and has been having a lot of complications. So I hopped a red-eye last night with some Heart Rate Variability biofeedback equipment for her.
Below is a family portrait of our heart rates. You can see the difference as I moved the sensor between us. The first region (blue) is my dad's. He has very little heart rate variability (not good). Next is me (green). I haven't done HRV training in years but I seem to be cruising on a nice sine wave anyway. Next is my mom (red) and you can see how erratic hers is.
To me it's a reminder of the toll that a lifetime of unresolved negative emotions take on one's heart. My parents are loving people trying their best, but they haven't experienced much healing in their lives. It's part of what has motivated me to heal as much as I possibly can.
Today my parents spent hours doing biofeedback, and with a good attitude. My dad saw big improvements (far from lasting, but a start). And my mom saw a little bit too.
Consider showing your loved one's their own HRV patterns. It just may be what they need to see in order to make some lasting changes. ❤️
