Dinner For One

in #life6 years ago

Classic Short movies, skits made to enjoy and laugh at life.

Growing up we watched many Laurel and Harvey movies, featuring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, short black and white home movie reel films on a white bed sheet up against a wall in our local scout hall.

Another highlight was The Three Stooges featuring Larry Fine, Curly Howard and Moe Howard.

Have we forgotten how to laugh at life, the crazy things we do, sit down and watch any one of these just for fun, find out how to cope.

We did not have television in our youth, this entertainment was shared by a community member in the village who owned a reel to reel machine for viewing.

During the 1980's Dinner For One started appearing on South African television channels, television came to South Africa in the beginning of 1976, an annual skit on New Years Eve each year for approximately 20 years, when stopped by the local broadcast company, my brother kept a copy to be watched every New Year!

How did I forget? With Woody [Adopt A Human] in the home, terrified of fireworks perhaps. Missing my crazy big brother might be another reason, to the rescue an online friend in Switzerland shared the memory, so I too am sharing it on, lest I forget!

Today I laughed/cried, for the first time in a long time, reminding me of fun times, joy laughter, mischief, missing loved ones, it all boils down to one thing we need to stop and laugh at ourselves. Not being a movie critic I found a great link to share why this unique short 11 minute movie has come into so many homes over the years.

Best insight into the movie found here - by Jude Stewart:

Thought for today: "To see in color is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul." ~ Andri Cauldwell

Evet. Eski filmler çok daha komikti. İlk kez gördüm bunu. Mr. Been'e benziyor.

Life comes packaged with surprises.

I love television and I laugh a lot. I laugh a lot generally

This particular short film is viewed by so many around the world, except UK and USA for some strange reason @ianstevenson

That brings back memories @joanstewart, oh how we used to laugh at Dinner for one on New Year's Eve! Simple pleasures satisfied us then not so :)

Many years of enjoyment, missing it this year made me think about the origin @lizelle

That was very good.

Good to have a laugh!

I hear this song every day.
On the way , there are cars playing this song.
酒干倘卖无.
It is the movie theme song.

Beautiful singing voice, unfortunately I do not understand the words, it does sound motivating @cloudblade thanks for sharing.

Lol I Love Old Comedy As Someone Says True That Old Is Gold 😂

Like your saying Old Is Gold @orakzai so much humour in the old black and white movies.

Nice video. thanks for share link...

I like that quote. I've never heard that before.

Those old black and white comedy skits were funny. I have a mind to show them to my grandchildren. I haven't watched many since I've been an adult, but I still get a kick out of The Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy. They were true comedians. Funny without being dirty, and you could laugh for hours. As you say, laughing at life.

We spent many happy hours watching short films, as you mention good clean fun. It could be fun sharing with your grandchildren, at the same time bringing out the child in you.

Mr Ben was one comedy I really love. I don't miss the animation any day on Disney Jnr.

We definitely enjoyed more passive viewing.

Gotcha on busy. My fav is from the 1970's and it is called Gumball Rally. Very silly and out of touch with this times. Also Monty Python from the same timeframe. but I do not see many movies now :)

Watched a lot of Monty Python, never heard of Gumball Rally.

It's a cheesy road movie. A bunch of hot cars race across the us for not really even a prize. Not good for feminists :)

Will take your word on that one, give it a miss.

Nice post, hope you will continue to give us more interesting posts like this
