“Look Emily if you insist on having this baby, theres nothing I can do about it but I am definitely not ready to be a dad. I’m sure my parents can help you financially and I will get your assignments from school if you need me to but thats about all I’m interested in doing. I can’t just give up on my dreams and become a dad.” Everett was about to learn the hard way what not to say to a young pregnant girl.
Emily was fuming, “assignments…...you think this is about assignments! Everett this is a child! A child that will be a part of both of us forever! Don’t be that piece of shit guy that doesn’t want to take care of his child……. don’t be a piece of shit Everett.”
“Forever is such a long time Em, I mean forever like all the time. Like every minute of every day. I just don’t know how to handle all of this. I mean…... I don’t want to be…….” Everett stopped talking and looked at Emily. Emily was crying. She looked at Ev and said words that would be burned in Everetts mind for ever.
“Don’t make me do this alone.”
Everett played out the next ten years in his mind over and over again for what seemed like hours. He just had this blank stare on his face. Emily stared back and doubled down.
“You know what Everett…..you are a piece of shit. Just go, I don’t need your help.”
“Em, its not that I don’t want to help. I just can’t give up on my dreams…..you have to understand.”
“What about my dreams? Emily was so hurt and confused. Her knight and shining armor was breaking her heart. Everett was a teenage boy. What did she expect. It just wasn’t likely that he could understand what she was going.
Everett looked at Emily and said, “I’m sorry…...dreams are not meant for everyone.” With that he walked away. Emily spent the next hour lying on her bed crying.
After an hour of sobbing Emily pulled herself together. She was more hurt that Everett would let this baby come between them than the fact that he didn’t want to be a father. She was a teenage girl and teenage girls have big heart and they want to find love. Think about it. A girl grows up playing princess
and house and fairy tales and then they reach high school and the fairy tales begin to seem real. On prom night they get to dress up like princesses at the grand ball. They get to cheer for there knights under the lights of the Friday night football games. They become women and in some cases mothers.
Love is with them the entire way. Its only when the world steps in and reminds them just how fragile they are and how fragile life is that they realize that they are not little girls. They are strong and
courageous beings that can handle anything. When a teenage girl chooses to be a mother she has made a decision of power. When a teenage girl decides to no be a mother she has also made a decision of power. Unfortunately sometimes the world forgets that with great power like the power to become a mother or decide against it, comes great sorrow. Along with sorrow also comes growth. As young girls grow and deal with the sorrow of their power, those of us who have experienced the same sorrow should lift them up in love. For every pregnant girl there should be a group of people willing to love her throughout her decision making process and with that we can truly change the world. On the other hand boys have a great power as well and need to be guided to use their power for good. They should be taught the secrets of love and that love should not be abused. Because love is in all things the power of love lyes with everyone of us in everything we do. We need to harness that power and use it to change the negativity in this world.
Emily had a beautiful baby girl. She was blessed with a great support system in her family. Everett decided to be a father to the child. He had broken Ems heart but the day her little girl was born she found out what it really meant to be loved. Everett’s parent did help out. The great thing about this story is that the families were able to set aside differences and disappointments and form a great bond around what mattered most…….their kids and the new baby. Everett was not the knight in sining armor that Emily once thought he was, but he did make a great father once he realized that no person should be denied their dreams. Loves funny isn’t it. Sometimes you just have to pull yourself together and let it happen.
You know, the big iron!
