As some of you know, I am passionate about conservation and protecting our earth. I have been making conscious changes in my day to day life to be more environmentally friendly. Something that I've learned is that IT'S SO EASY! I believe there can sometimes be a huge misconception about being earth friendly; that it's expensive, and hard, and takes too much time. Well, doesn't anything new take time and practice? If you want to be good at it, GIVE IT TIME! You are changing your LIFESTYLE and it is something that will not happen over night. Set yourself up for success; get the basics down first and start changing your habits. One habit to change that I STILL have trouble with, is taking my reusable grocery back with me to the store. I'm not going to say I always forget, but it's something I can definitely be better at. Keeping a reusable grocery bag in your car is something that is so easy to do, but the act of remembering is what we need to focus on. It has to be at the front of our minds every time we go to the store.
All that aside, I want people to learn more about an environmentally friendly lifestyle. So I have created my own website that will include blogs and videos as I'm traveling abroad (to Bali in TWO WEEKS!!), but I will still post on Steemit as well. Both sites are things I can take with me anywhere, but I am a fan of having my own "look" on a webpage. It's a work in progress, and it always will be, and I definitely have a new appreciation for those who design webpages for a living. You can find me HERE.
Keep being awesome!
Jill
Great article! I am also trying to adopt an eco-friendly / sustainable lifestyle and writing about my experience on Steemit! As you said, it takes time and practice but I think it will be worth it! Congrats on the webpage!
Thank you! And it's so great to know that people are taking initiative to adopt those principles. We were kind to the environment at one point without all the plastics, right? We can do it!
Something key is to remember to wash the reusable bag as well. If you are still eating meat and have some in the bag it will become a petrie dish of bacteria in between grocery store visits.
The other thing to consider is going solar for your home. The amount of fossil fuels monthly and annually is staggering. Every little bit is that much less environment polluting components that are created.
Of course going solar is ideal! However, sometimes it is not affordable at a certain point in time. I know it pays for itself over the years but the investment is difficult to pay for. It's a big commitment to start with but a great commitment nonetheless. Just have to take thinks one step at a time!
And thank you for the reminder about cleaning the grocery bags!
There is always an amount that is affordable and the impact on the environments is beyond measure. When one neighbor sees another go solar they are more inclined to follow suit. So the savings can be through a small example.
Some locales are more cost effective than others, the main action is to look into it. Too many people just assume that it will is beyond their means without investigation. It costs nothing to find out.
Saving the planet from plastic is a whole other topic and can of worms. Do what can be done for the bags and giving up straws can help too. It is small actions over time that make the biggest difference.
Thanks for your input!
Thanks!
