A senior executive of China Telecom Equipment giant Huawei Technologies Limited said on June 13 that the company was preparing for the launch of the "Hongmeng" operating system to replace the Android system in the United States.
"At the moment, Huawei is likely to release alternative systems," Williamson said in Mexico City. Huawei doesn't want to do that. We are very willing to stay in the Android family, but testing of the Hongmeng system is under way, mainly in China.
"We will certainly strive for a registered trademark." He added.
Reported that Williamson said he expected the company's revenue growth in 2019 to remain about 20%, last year was 19.5%. Huawei said in March that its three major business groups may achieve double-digit growth this year.
Williamson pointed out that if trade tensions escalate into a full-scale trade war, the Hongmeng system will be ready for release "in a few months".
According to reports from the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization, Huawei has submitted trademark registration applications for its Hongmeng Mobile Operating System in several countries.
