When I sat down at the workstation in the library, a long row of computers side by side with all stainless steal chairs in front of them, I'm pleased to find that both people on either side of me seem sane, or at least quiet, and have showered. As a bonus no one seems to be coughing like they're sick with the plague.
Boy are we off to a strong start, today.
As I write this I'm listening to Fleetwood Mac's The Chain. There was one point where their music was getting a lot of shit. However, they had some solid hits, many of them featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
How in the hell does the internet work? There's a question that's been on my mind. I mean most people know the broad strokes, but think about it: how many people are there in the world that could tell you from start to finish how the internet works in technical detail. I'm guessing that there are very, very few.
If I had a million dollars (or let's face it: 100 million in today's money) I'd spend almost all of my time researching. Research, reading, study. There's just so much shit that I want to learn. And there's nothing that says you have to be in one place while you study. So traveling the world is a given.
Of course, if I'm single, then flirting with girls around the world is a given. It's not just the idea of sleeping with various girls, it's that really meeting another person is just so interesting. I think being single gets a bad rap, and most people prefer not to be. In my opinion being single and being with someone isn't bad or good, it just depends on who you are and where you're at in life. If you're one of those people who's thinking about being single when they're with someone or thinking about being with someone when you're single, you're sort of missing the purpose of life. Appreciate where you're at, and raise your standards for what you want, and you'll find that problem fading like a distant memory.
But that's enough on that subject.
It's supposed to rain today and I forgot my umbrella. Looking forward to getting a bit wet. That's what she said.
Dirty jokes aside, this weather's getting pretty serious down here. This was definitely not the day to forget to check the weather before leaving home.
I really, really, want to buy a lot of tech. I mean, VR is just too insane to feel like I'm missing out on it. The HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift. Hell, I want the new game systems and you should, too. Just look at the Nintendo Switch. It's another landmark in gaming innovation (one I'm sure that Microsoft and Sony will be quick to respond to, copying off of the actual innovator of the three as usual). And, you know, the Xbox One and PS4 are both solid systems.
But lest I go on and on about only what I want, I think I want to make it clear that there's also a lot that I want to do for the world. You see, I think each of us has something special to give to the world. No, I am not bullshitting you. I know it's cliche and kitchy, but some cliches exist for a reason.
Each of us feels compelled to give in that way, whatever it is. And I have a pretty strong idea of what I want my contribution to be. I think the main problem isn't that people aren't giving enough of their time or energy into making the world a better place. I think the main problem is that their effort is often misplaced, resulting in suboptimal results. It may be the thought that counts, but it's hardly the only thing that counts and it's definitely not the main thing. The main thing is the result.
I'd like to do research on where we could contribute the minimum energy to get the maximum results in health and happiness in third world countries. It'd be more of a research ground than a charity. We'd employ statisticians, infrastructure specialists, and cultural anthropologists (these last will be important if we're to understand barriers to adoption).
So, I want stuff for myself, and I want stuff for the world. I'm not sure whether that's the height of maturity, but it's the truth. If you had a 100 million dollars, what stuff would you want. And, I suppose more importantly, what would you do for the world?
