I loved the comedian Bill Hicks. He has always been in my top 5 of comedians along with people like George Carlin and Doug Stanhope.
His best performance, in my opinion, ended with a great bit called, "It's just a ride". You can see it here:
On my "walk n' talk" with the five crazy dogs today I pondered upon how most people take life way too seriously.
And because they are so busy taking life so seriously they never actually live it.
You can hear more of my thoughts here:
If you find yourself getting worried or stressed out too much over even little things. Or if you are feeling unfulfilled and feel like life is meaningless, I have good and bad news.
Life, generally, is meaningless. But it can have meaning. First though you need to relax and realize it's just a ride. Then, enjoy it.
'Ayahuasca told me' I am here to experience and to feel. It is just an experience. An experience of your choosing.

I watched your interview on youtube. yo the bomb!
Stoicism talks about some of this too. It's amazing what happens when we start realizing that everything in life that happens, happens for our greater good. For our fulfillment or education. Now I know some really bad shit happens some times and it's not explainable, but I think living the way you described still applies. I posted about stoicism a few days ago and there's a link included that takes you to a free ebook by Tim Ferriss who wrote a great book about stoicism. I'll post here if you don't mind.

You are exactly right! Or else it's easy to fall into nihilism at some point.
I couldn't agree more with the statement about how life is generally meaningless, however ultimately it is up to us to create a meaningful life! Simply Brilliant Jeff!
There are many roads up the same mountain. We all get to the peak, but each in our own way.
That's the best way to live life. This is what Buddhism taught me.
"Realllll fucking high on drugs" B.H class
Bill Hicks is Alex Jones

So Alex Jones is not Bill Hicks, right?
Bill Hicks is Alex Jones.
Ha I knew if I scrolled down a little there would be an Alex Jones / Bill Hicks reference. Thanks for the laugh guys!
Jeff, I think we can easily get caught up in the matrix, unconsciously doing what we think we're supposed to do based on how we were raised and indoctrinated. I know people in their 40's and 50's who are still living their lives based on how they were raised, even though that paradigm is clearly not working for them. I used to be like that, too.
I agree with you, I like learning new things...learning the truth, changing, and growing in consciousness as a result. Stagnant waters are dead waters. We don't want to be stagnant.
I think we're here on this planet to see through the lies, to learn the truth and to realize our inner power. And, as a result we help to raise the level of consciousness here. From there the light spreads, unconditional love comes forth and one day the planet transforms from negativity into positivity.
Bill Hick's Rocks! (We lost a moron, CELEBRATE!)
Life is like a ride.. Up, down, real or not real, don't be afraid its a ride. No effort, it's a choice to see LIFE if you relax and enjoy the ride.
All my experiences with drugs have been POSITIVE!
MY TOP 5:
Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Louis CK, Jim Jefferies, Bill Burr.
The intelligently criticize our culture and society.
This sums up the whole alienation from the natural way of life, and the society we created.
Very good post thank you for sharing once again, resteemed and upvoted
It's better not to take everything seriously , it's harmful for the body too :D
Bill Hicks was woke AF. Also one of the best comedians of the 20th century, despite his relatively short life and career.
One detail that I'd nitpick is that "just a ride" doesn't mean meaningless! The fact is it means no meaning was predetermined or prescribed, that each human is free to creatively and freely explore and create meaning for ourselves!
At a deeper level, there is meaning in Awakening to the fact that life is just a ride. Taking the self or the ride too seriously are just about the only "serious" or "meaningful" mistakes a human being can make.
Thanks Jeff for sharing your journey! Namaste!
Bill Hicks is definitely among my top 10 greatest people ever!
For music lovers and Bill Hicks fans, I recommend checking out Tool's album Aenima - it was dedicated to Bill Hicks.
I absolutely agree! People take life too seriously, it aint a permanent marker…its more like an expo marker on an infinite white board landscape.
Just when I'm taking the shit around me seriously. Thank you for the reminder @jeffberwick.
So true!! lol
This is the superman ride
nice to meet you
Thank a for posting!
True...no thing matters.
Some people takes life way too serious. Even this time too shall pass
I like Tim Allen.
An anarchist!
I enjoy watching your videos Jeff. I don't take Jeff, life or anyone else too seriously.
Do not take yourself too serious
muito bom gostei @jeffberwick
Haha I love George Carlin and Bill Hicks as well. Thanks for a reminder to just relax man everything is cool. Just live in the now!
I think Alan Watts also says something along those lines. (:
Alan Watts is one of my favorites!! I just followed you!
I agree to disagree. Even though life is meaningless you will find a meaning to life. As of now my life became meaningful when I met a girl that I love.
Although I am an easy go lucky one , now I worry about where will I get money, where will I spend it, what about the future, I need to make payments, need money to pay this and that... My life is turning upside down not having enough money for me and for my family, I guess we all feel this way too when it comes to family.

Love Bill Hicks, thanks for the share Jeff!
Why do people keep saying that there are others out there trying to mandate "change" or lack thereof with guns? I'm a registered independent and I've never had a gun pointed at my head by a conservative telling me I must oppose liberal ideas. Liberals own guns too ya' know. Just look at Chicago (a traditionally liberal place).
Life will always be a rollercoaster ride. It has unending ups and downs, twists and turns, you can enjoy most part of it, or get sick and nauseated about it. The most important thing is that you make the most out of this short, sweet ride called "life".
Thanks for the awesome post sir @jeffberwick. Keep em flowing! (ง^ᗜ^)ง
(and you gained a measly .01 upvote and a new follower. xD)
So true! I'm on the same thought process as you. Keep it up!
Hicks is still The King :)

So true. But SO HARD to really feel it like that and not worry over stupid things that actually don't mean shit, but where you feel pressured about just because society demands so many things of ppl. It's all in our heads, but so hard to get it out of there. If i may speak for myself (:
Live is simple for those who take it simple
I believe your life only has true meaning when your life means something to someone else. In the great scheme of things we are nothing but space dust, but we can enjoy this crazy and wonderful experience and help others enjoy it too. Good post!
I will just sit back and enjoy the ride then.
