My landlord has really been coming through lately and it feels great.

I've been living in the same place for several years now. I like this place.

It's a house that I share with two other gentlemen.

One of them is a construction worker and the other is a chef.

I work in a restaurant and I do a few other things as well. I like to keep busy and I like to have my hands in a variety of different things. Writing is definitely one of those things.

When you own a house you have to be prepared to put a lot of money into it. That's called maintenance and it's something that needs to be put in your budget every single year.

This is especially true if you are renting out the house because the people living there are going to need it to be a habitable environment.

A couple of years ago my toilet broke. I fixed it but I am neither a handyman nor am I very handy at all when it comes to this kind of thing.

I complained to my landlord but he was perpetually busy and didn't really want to spend the money on getting it fixed. I finally convinced him to fix it two months ago. I cannot tell you how great it is to have a toilet that flushes easily on the first try.

Of course there were a lot of other things that were wrong too and I have been complaining for some time about these things.

The house has very poor insulation. We have gone around filling in the holes and putting that tape stuff all over the place but it doesn't really work very well.

The air conditioner and heater are both terrible. If you turn the air conditioning on even for just a little while you will immediately have a bill that is more than a few hundred dollars more than it was the last month.

We all end up using fans all summer, which is ridiculous. It's a hot house.

Lately there's been another issue has been bothering me though. My door doesn't close very well anymore and I often find a cat in my room.

When someone opens one of the outside doors my door will usually open also. The sympathetic opening.

It's incredibly annoying when you're trying to sleep but your roommate comes home at 3:00 in the morning causing your door to fly open. It bursts your sleeping bubble.

I finally got my landlord to come over today and install a new lock and key on my door.

It's like having a new room.

Lock on the door, toilet that works....... now all I need is the light in my bathroom to be fixed.

For some reason when you turn on the light in the bathroom nothing happens no matter how many times you switch out the bulb.

This inactive light switch makes going to the bathroom less than ideal.

I guess I could just put a lantern in there but I really like things to be in perfect working order.

Nevertheless I'm feeling really good.
